Hi to all :)

I have the intention to build my own KS EPROMs for A600, A1200 & A4000D.

Anyone can recommend me the best KS Programmer and the EPROM IC's I need?

Preferable one USB solution cappable to run under Win7 x32 or x64....

Searching a bit I found...

- VP280 EEPROM SRAM Flash MCU Programmer USB IC Tester
- VP380 Universal IC Programmer EEPROM SRAM Flash MCU USB
- IC MCU EEPROM FLASH Universal Programmer FlashPRO300

Thanks in advance :)

I just got a VP-280 and find it to be pretty good, easy software, and burns fast, USB connected plus power pack.

Hi, Thanks for the info m8

And sorry again for the noob question... What IC's I need for A600, A1200 & A4000D?

Thanks

27C400 are 512KB Eproms while 27C800 are 1MB Eproms.
- On A1200 2x27C400 give you 1MB ROM
- On A4000 2x27C400 give you 1MB ROM but Amiga can only see 512KB so be sure not to make a custom 1MB ROM or it won't work
- On A500/600/2000 1x27C400 gives you 512KB for normal >2.x+ ROMS or custom ones
- On A500/600/2000 1x27C800 gives you 1MB for custom ROMS

You can check some 27C400s that work for sure here: http://www.buyicnow.com/fincat.php?cat=98
(AMD are in stock, Intel ones are too slow@150ns and ST ones are not in stock)

For 27C800 you can get these that work for sure here: http://www.buyicnow.com/fincat.php?cat=77

Just be sure to buy <= 120ns.

Hi Marios,

Thanks a lot for the info my friend very much appreciated :bowdown:

Now I go to buy some IC's and the programmer. On reception I will try to make my custon ROM's following your thread.

Best wishes

Pablo

I see 40pins though only. You can use an adaptor to burn 27C800's on them as well or no?

Always try to grab a programmer with support for 48pin EPROM chips: much more versatility and not much a difference in price.

Hi again,

Ufff a lot of programmers & options ..... :wooha:

Really I'm a bit confussed. But, as rkauer saids, I will try to get the most versatile option. Searching more accurate I found one 48pin package.....

TOP3000 USB Programmer *1
PLCC20 TO DIP20 *1
PLCC28 TO DIP24 *1
PLCC32 TO DIP32 *1
PLCC44 TO DIP40 *1
PLCC IC Extractor *1

.... at very  price.

This one can be a good solution for KS's and maybe other Amiga IC's ?

@mfilos

The ST M27C800-50F1(50ns) are good for 1MB KS's or better the 120ns ones?

Thanks to all again & Best wishes :)

Never tried 50ns... aren't they too fast for Amiga? (Zetr0 or Rkauer may know better).
So far I only tried 100ns and 120ns Pablo my friend. Better stick with those to be sure.

50ns may work OK, the speed measure is for the response time, not the duration of the signal.

But normally faster chips are way more expensive, so better not waste money in chips that are not needed in this sort of speed.

Thanks my friends.

Finally I bought the TOP3000 package and some 27C400/27C800 at 120ns.

More updates on reception, but maybe in the Marios thread :)

My best wishes as allways

Pablo

hmm.. I can't find any confirmation that the TOP3000 will program 27C400 eproms - 27C4001/27C4002 (amiga incompatible) and 27C800 are mentioned, though..

I have a VP 390, great piece of kit.

I would go for 27c800's and burn dual kickstarts. Much better value for money and usability.
