My buddy Quan of Arcade Works (the mind behind the Omega Consolized MVS system) has come up with a permanent fix for the front loading Toaster NES. His fix involves replacing the original NES tray loading mechanism with a newly designed one. No more need for inserting a cartridge and pressing down to engage it via the zero insertion force connector. His resigned mech allows you to simply slide the cart in and press the power button. No more ZIF connectors to replace. Ever.

Anways, thought you guys might be interested in backing a project aimed to correct one of the design flaws of the original NES console.

It does sound interesting, but (and I hate to say this) this can already be done at no cost by using a small flat-head screwdriver to bend back the pins on the original connector so that they make proper contact (this is usually all they need, so it surprises me that an industry has popped up around replacement connectors), coupled with snipping the relevant pin on the lockout chip dependent on your console's region (which also has the side-effect of removing the region-locking)...

Yes we can fix the connector with a screwdriver but it would need to be done again and again with more use of the console, and this new connector seems to fix the console once and for all.

I've only had to do it once, myself (and quite a lot of years ago, at that), but if that's the wider experience of that particular repair, fair enough. ;)

I really want this but he is asking $40 for shipping to UK, but steep, if he gets it down then I will be backing this.

Edit: I spoke too soon, I just checked and there is a new 1st class shipping option for $17, much better. I will be backing this now.

Nice find, I have a few US NES I have here ready for RGB modding at some point and they have a lot of trouble with blinking. Will order one of these to see how well it works.
