Hi, all
I thought I would share some info and pictures of my BOMAC A2000 Video toaster unit. Even though the tear down and refurbish is like months away, I thought I would risk the hernia to bring some pictures tonight.
First, even though the tower is huge, the design makes it relativity simple to get into. the side panel is on a hinge, so no struggling to get into the unit.
As you know (or may not) the design was to slide the A2000 right inside, and the front drive bays, (with removal of a few screws) slide right out the front, so servicing this monstrosity, is almost painless.
My unit doesn't have a second power supply. This makes me guess that when I get to it, I can completely remove the Big foot power supply, and strickly go with an ATX (with the adapter from AmigaKit). This way, I can remove the Commodore Hard drive sled all together and put just a regular case fan at the back.
I assumed earlier that this had a TBC unit in it. I came to that conclusion, when I took pictures of the unit, and there were 2 rows of BNC connectors (one for the VT and one for the TBC). Upon closer examination, the one row is dead! there is nothing behind it. I am not sure why this is, but I suspect maybe termination? I am such a newb when it comes to BNC.
There is also a din cable up front hanging loose, I suspect it is the keyboard connector for the back.
The big fan up front has a filter in front of it. I suspect that the previous owner put this there, but it looks good and has done a fine job of keeping dust out of the unit.
The A2000 inside:
The A2000 inside is a fairly dust free revision 4 board. The silkscreening say rev 4, but there is a sticker stating 4.2
The unit has an 8 up board (but it doesn't look populated) and a GVP accelerator card. I didn't pull the cards, but I am guessing it is an GVP A2000 040 combo card (revision 6) by the look of the photos on BBoAh.
Last thing worth mentioning. I am guessing an older style keyboard, because instead of 2 "alt" keys, we have a Commodore "Chickenlip" logo on the left hand side.
I may try to fire this baby up tonight, but I have started a list of parts needed from Amigakit and others.
The floppy drive looks like it has been in a car wreck, so I know besides the ATX adapter, I am just going to replace the drives with 2 new ones from AmigaKit. The toaster will stay in this unit, I will put one of those SCSI card readers from Mechware.
Because the hard drive sled is in the way, I can't tell yet, what ROMS or battery condition is like, so that will wait, as I don't feel like pulling everything out just yet.
