I've to withdraw my interest due to shipment costs.
Thanks and best of luck with the sale damanloox!

You say the brown (orange) function keys are rare. I agree with this, especially for your serial number. They don't exist, unless someone added a VIC20 keyboard. So it it a Frankenstein that you are selling.

There's another explanation to the function keys colour (which you may have not think about) - perhaps you're wrong...?
Most keyboards have dark grey function keys but some have orange, similar to the VIC-20's. Some VIC-20s have also been spotted with grey function keys, but that is more unusual. The reason why is unknown: one theory is that the orange was the original for both, and that grey is just a later variation. Another theory is that factories sometimes ran out of the intended variation and not being picky, used whatever they had on hand to meet demand.

But yeah - go ahead and pretend you keep a record of every single C64 that left every Commodore factory.

C64 is still for sale.

The fact that even the keys on the box picture are also orange seems to contradict your accusation.

We can settle this quite easy. Open up the unit and photograph the Mitsumi date code sticker and the chips on the main board (should be a 6510 from late 1983 on a 250407 rev B board).

C64s left the Braunschweig facility in 1982 and 1984 with orange F keys. Serials will be 4 digit (upto 6xxx) and 6 digit (starting 1xxxxx). You will also find late (refurbished) VIC20s with grey F keys.

I don't want to be a pain in the ass but where are you getting all that info from? Do you have access to non-existing official commodore facility reports? To my knowledge Commodore used whatever parts they had - and it's rather hard to pinpoint what parts were used for any particular C64 or VIC. You seem to portrait yourself as a ultimate commodore knowledge source claiming you know pretty much everything.
But yes - I'll open up the box and check the motherboard etc. just for my own curiosity.
Anyway - the C64 is still for sale and anybody who wants to get it is probably aware about your opinion on that.

That's pretty specific information. Can you please back it up with documents or sources?

I collect C64s and VIC20s and have enough of them in my hands to know exactly what I am speaking about. As the seller is not willing/able to post pics of the date codes on the board and keyboard we are going to have to assume it is a Frankenstein machine.

OK. So you are saying that having 0.01% of total population (I'm sort of assuming you don't have more than 1200 C64s) you can be 100% sure about every one of them... And that's considering the fact that even Commodore didn't really know these details when producing them (it is well known fact that they were using parts that they had at hand at any given time).. Well... then I'm assuming that statistics was not your favourite subject at school..
we are going to have to assume it is a Frankenstein machine.
You can assume whatever you want really... Just as I can (see above).

And BTW - this is "sale" thread and I'm sure everybody have their own view on this by now (considering that you've taken half of this thread). So if you're not interested in buying - please start you own topic and feel free to link this one and make it a flagship example of "Frankenstein machine"...

Befor stating interests, how about some pic from the inside, as there is no Warranty seal.. let's see that 250407 board please.
Thank you.
