Just gone fibre-optic with BT but the new home hub 4 seems a bit lacklustre and the wireless signal strength is poor. Also not much to tweak, all seems hidden away, no bells or whistles.

Any recommendations for something better I can buy? Something with stronger wireless and more configurable.

I've been through more routers than I care to mention and the only type that can handle the strain is a Draytek. They are very expensive but it seems you get what you pay for. I would be interested to hear other people's experiences.

Cheers

Richard

Any router that is classed as a cable router will work. I personally like the Billion 7800N, but the Draytek routers are also really good. They all cost 3 figures though, but as with everything you get what you pay for.

Regarding the BT HUB4, I actually have one of these and I'm still using it and haven't switched back to my Billion. It's wireless coverage is very good for me. I can stream HD to my smart tv no problems and can access it even in the shed down the garden.

Get a secondhand linksys wrt160n v3 from ebay and stick dd-wrt on it. I've been utterly flabbergasted at how solid and how good the wireless signal has been since putting dd-wrt on (it's poo without it btw).

I've tried this trick with more recent linksys routers with not so much success, but that might just be my incompetence.
