I have been burning some CD's on my PowerMac with mostly ADF files which I convert to floppies on my 3000T for use on my 1.3 A2000 (mostly games) and I have run into a problem.

It seems that if a directory on the CD has less than a certain number of files on it (not sure of the exact number) then I can mount it on the Amiga with no trouble, but, if I go into the folder where there are a lot of files and try to 'list', the Amiga sits there and does nothing.

I made a CD with about 35 files in a folder, no problem, however, I tried making another CD with 135 files and it's no good. The odd part is that if there are other folders on the CD with a small number of files and I access them, they work just fine.

Burning on Mac OS X using 'Joliet', my 3000T is os 3.5 with AmiCDFS. Any suggestions of what I am doing wrong here?

Thanks,
Mike

Joliet is default for buring from most Windows software, but only a few Amiga file systems can read Joliet (CacheCDFS and AsimCDFS). So best not to use Joliet

For better compatibility you should select ISO9660 Level 2.

ISO9660 Level 1 supports 8+3 filenames.
ISO9660 Level 2 supports 32 characters, all upper case (Nero also has an option to stop it converting all file names to upper case, which you can try).

However, for the best compatibility use MakeCD in WinUAE to write the CD.

Thanks Harrison! I'll give that a try and see how it goes.

You may also need 'Rockridge' extensions. They're commonly used on UNIX platform, but I think the Amiga works with them too. Certainly whenever I've burned a CD for the Amiga with Rockridge, I've not hit any problems with it.

Let us know how you get on!

I tried ISO-9660 but, encountered the same issue. I think this has something to do with filename format more than number of files in a given folder, or in the root.

After doing some research, I found some information on rockridge, which might help me out. Unfortunately, the app I am using on my mac to burn the disks does not appear to support it as an option. :(

Solving that problem first, then I'll get back to the other problem. :)

What app are you using? I'm sure I just used the Mac's own in-build CD recording stuff and it worked fine. Might be worth a try?

I've always used Toast on my Macs to burn CDs for use on the Amiga, and have never encountered problems.

Yes. More Amiga CDFS's work with Rockridge which was the Amiga's default long filenames.
