The gear of my CD32 is broken. It still works but its noisy and has difficulty reading discs as it has some splines badly damaged on the bottom part.

The gear is the part that goes between the laser and the motor. Its white.

Is there a direct replacement unit for it ?

Yep, its a standard sony cd mech part.
Sony KSM-210 mech have them. You can also get them on their own.
Its normally called a sled / traverse gear.

You may have problems getting one as they are quite old now.
Some one may carry old stock. Try Charles Hyde & Son or ASWO.

Other than that find an only broken KSM mech and get the gear off that.

Yes, if I recall that should work. Been over 5 years since I have worked on those mechs.
They are same mechs apart from some slight differences (laser being one of those).

Thats a good price for a complete mech. Remember when they were £50+.

KSM-213 is not CD-32 compatible though it looks similar ... But good news, the gear is identical and now my CD32 is working purrrrfect!
