Hi, I’m trying to figure out a problem with my spare CD32 player, its been recently recapped although the problem was there prior to that, the CD player isn’t recognised and loading up the optional bios screen shows it not being recognised as present, the splash screen starts up as usual and the CD will spin on startup but then displays a permanent orange light on the led.

the CD will constantly spin but nothing will load and the screen remains black. I have switched out the CD player with my other unit and get the exact same problem and both CD players work on my other console so it’s defintiely not the issue with the CD unit.

Can anyone list any problem area or chips that could be at fault. The cd32 works fine with an expansion board attached but the CD issues are something I haven’t seen before.

Cheers richard

I've just checked the schematics: http://www.amigawiki.de/dnl/schematics/CD32_R3.pdf

Maybe it's being caused by the ribbon cable from between the CD player and motherboard or dirty connectors?
The CD player is connected via connector CN17 to the motherboard.
Almost all signals are connected to Akiko (U5) custom chip, in the worst case scenario this one needs to be replaced.

I’ll have to get some compressed air and try and clean out the connectors, I do have a spare Akiko on a junk board I use for parts, although the soldering would be tricky getting it into place

I would Check the CD player have the good voltage....

It's not usual a custom chip is broken. I would replace Akiko at the very last step.

Also, caps ? There is also caps inside the CD player....

The CD player has been tried in a seperate cd32 and plays fine and another working CD player has already been put into the faulty cd32 and it has the exact same issue, so it’s definitely mobo related
