I am about to switch my old 2.5" hard disk drives to a modern solution in my Amiga 600 and Amiga 1200.

Which device should I choose: CF_Card_To_IDE44 or SD_Card_To_IDE44?

Is there any difference in speed or lifetime between CF and SD solutions?

There is no real difference between CF or SD, just that most Amiga users have used CF but SD works also but the SD to IDE adapters can be more expensive

SD adapters usually don't work the LED's properly either

And what do you think about a real 2.5" PATA 5400/7200 HDD (new one)? Let's say 40GB...
Are there any noticeable advantages of modern CF or SD technology?

I like the sound of real drives ;)

I do not like that. I have seen a special adapter to fix that issue but it does not work with the top shield :(

I have not used a Mechanical 2.5" hard drive on a Amiga for 10 years only CF now

The SD LED issue can be easily fixed via a resistor or mosfet placed in between pin 39 and the power LED.

I have found two more solutions so far... DOM (Disk-on-Module) and SSD (Solid-State-Disk) - both 2.5" 44-pin IDE.

Are here users of above solutions in Amiga 600 / Amiga 1200 computers?

Let us leave price comparison with other solutions for now... speed and reliability counts only.

I have used some SSD/DOM please beware they don't always work with extra hardware like FastATA

However these can be really nice tidy solutions and an SSD should be more reliable if your Amiga is heavily used (lots of Disk activity) like Big Box Amiga doing productivity work.

For an WHDLoad machine the good old CF-IDE is a nice simple, highly compatible cheap and simple solution :)

Speed, well they will all be the same give or take this is limited by your other hardware.

For example you get big speed gains by using SCSI instead of IDE (less CPU load) having a faster CPU can help or using extra Hardware like a FastATA or IDE EXpress.

I have a CF to IDE, but then use a CF to SD adaptor since SD cards are a lot cheaper than CF cards.

It seems that I am in the minority of very nostalgic mechanical HDD users ;)
Thank you for your help. It seems that CF is a good modern solution.

The compatibility is the most important thing, so I think I will give up with SSD/DOM.
I have SCSI add-on on my Blizzard 1230MKIV so I will think about that, too.

If you have an A600 and are going to get Furia (highly recommended) then for some reason the SD adapters work great and CF does not...
