Hi all

can someone give me a few ideas on my cf problems

i have a few cf cards 2gb mainly 2 transend and a cheapo ebay 1

i have used the sfs filesystem with 3.1 roms and a 1200 with a blizzard 1230mkiv

i use the latest 2.79 sfs using with cwb 3.9

i have copied the sfs files to a 3.1 bootable install disk
sfsformat to c:
smartfilesytem to l:

on real amiga

i boot with the floppy
open up the hdtoolbox
set the drive type to define new
then read configuration

then partition drive dh0: to 500mb
click advanced options
add new filesystem l:smartfilesystem
then change the dostype to 0x53465300
then change the filesystem to sfs/00
mask=07ffffffe
maxtransfer=0x1fe00
block size=512
(enter is pressed every time option is changed)

then partition drive dh1: is the remainder

then i save the drive properties

reboot

and the drives show up

i then type in command window
sfsformat drive dh0: name system
sfsformat drive dh1: name work

a format prompt opens with press enter to format
so i press enter (same for both partitions)

i then use winuae and mount the cwb 3.9 hardfile and mount the cf card
and use dopus to transfere the system across

my system works fine in winuae booted from the cf card

now my problem is it works fine a few times in my amiga but after a few times used when i transfere games and stuff on the miggy it cannot read some blocks and the the card goes and then wont boot

so if anyone has any idea why please help

john

thanks yes sorry the dos type was a typeo sorry in my post

i might have the buffers wrong will see thanks

One more thing m8

sfsformat drive dh0: name system

you dont need the :

sfsformat drive DH0 name System

Is enough, again might not do anything but : is not needed.

Cheers

@johnim

My friend, it sounds as though the geometry has not been correctly detected.

When I get some time I will look into it here, the last 2GB and 8GB transcend worked fine setting up under emulation and then transfering files to it. all worked fine on the target machine.

hmmmmm

I did have some problem with a lot of USB ->CF or PCMCIA (/Express) to CF adapters... at the moment I am using a full USB to IDE device and that is being converted to CF, this I have found give better results... of course the best results are when you plug the device directly to the IDE bus.

hope that helps buddy

hi zetro heres a shot from winuae

thanks

ps im using a usb mulitibay on pc and a idefix 4way to cf on the amiga

I use my CWOS3.9 setup to setup SFS disks.

Tools>>HDTools

I prepare the disk using the external USB to IDE to CF adapter to CF kludge and then prep the drives that way, I find it quicker and stable compared to earlier versions of workbench.

Also you get the updated ROM 3.1 ROM library (scsi.device) with the boing-bags as well as NSDLibs *new style device* (I best mention that update too)

from memory I use the following syntax after opening shell (a new CLI window)
Code:
sfsformat device CFD0: name AmigaOS

and then hit enter a couple of times to confirm and within seconds it is complete.

If I want to dupe a Device / Partition I do the following i.e.

copy source_partition: ALL dest_partition:

or

Code:
copy system: ALL AmigaOS:

And away it goes - leave it 5 - 15 minutes and its done all done!

if you made the device bootable and duped your boot drive then you can remove say the HDF from the drives menu of WinUAE and then boot from the CF card / Harddisk

Not sure if its worth mentioning -

But to isolate if there is a problem with the CF card itself, have you tried FFS?
