Charge back and effect on your paypal?

Interesting viewpoints. We agree to disagree.

but by your logic. if i were to say buy a car from a ford dealer, my bank transferd the money to the dealer. the dealer then sends the money to ford, but ford never sent me the car, i would have to take that up directly with ford and not the dealer?

If you want a car based analogy, here's what you did. You gave an envelope full of cash to a guy on the understanding he'd come back later with a car for you. He didn't, so now you're blaming the Bank of England for printing the money, and you want the money back from your bank that you took the case out of because you didn't receive your goods.

also if i had evidence that the "cheque" that was sent to a person was for goods that never arrived, then yes my bank would retrieve that money also..

Can you cite an example of this, please?

don't you guys think that this has gone off topic and that this side topic should end as it is not really serving any purpose other than winding each other up?

cheers, Justin

i agree..

all i really wanted to know is what would paypal do if i had to do a charge back.
im sure the numerous thousands that go through my paypal every year even though quite a sum for me and my family, dont ammount to much for them. but then again they may not wish to repremand a fully verified paypal user whos transactions usualy net them quite a few £ year..

this however is pretty subjective. and as far as i am aware they would treat me as if i was an unverified user who made a chargeback on the 1st ever transaction.

having said that, even though the Gift option was selected they are insisting of refering to the other party as the seller. but that is most probably due to a standard format/template they use.

Really dumb obvious thing: have you asked PayPal if a chargeback would have any effect on your seller status?

It would seem that nobody can give you an accurate assessment of that situation. The most likely predictions are that they will close your account. What else they choose to do is entirely at their discretion.

At this point, I think this thread has run its course and I'm therefore closing it.

Edit: I've merged the subsequent thread on the same topic.

update on my gift payment thingy.

update on my gift payment thingy.

pay pal seemed fine about everything.
seemed to decide they didnt want to go through all the hassle of having the bank do chargebacks.

and they have sent me an email saying my money will be refunded within 5 days...

"that was resolved faster than when its paid for as goods"

had to re-verify my account details to show i wasnt just pretending to be me.
which was a bit lame. and account was restricted till i did that "took about 10min but only because there phone number verification sucked"

and all in all it was much less painful than i had expected.

Good to hear the outcome turned out well for you.

For the record, I support your decision to claim your money back... I probably would've waited longer, but I also know how frustrating it can be to not hear from the other party.

Hopefully the other guy is understanding of the situation when he comes back... looking at his profile, he is a university student, I assume he is knee deep with exam preparation at the moment.
