I'm developing a website that I wish to run on as many Amigas and their web browsers as possible. So far I have only tried the Voyager browser, and I also recently purchased the Easynet PCMCIA WiFi card + CD and disc from Amibay (why isn't Amibay in the dictionary?) for use on my A1200 during development.

I'm an experienced web developer (although it is no longer my primary occupation), and I'd be so grateful to hear any tips or tricks on the subject that will help me on my quest.

Driving the website will be a MySQL database running on Linux with Php and Apache. The website will be largely lists that link to articles that feature one or two images each, a download link such as an lzx, lha or adf.

I imagine there will be a persistent top banner, as is the way with most websites, but I might not bother with that.

Is CSS okay to use? JavaScript and JQuery?

Note: I am not planning any JavaScript snow

I'm going to avoid humongous graphics and animations, but it would be great to know whether I shouldn't worry. Especially since I would like to feature an IFF animation on there too.

That's another thing. Will I be able to use IFF images and animations in the browsers?

Please let me know your favourite browsers too, and your download speed.

Thanks in advance

the Amiga classic don't support css, PPC stuff can (well netsurf can a little bit)

Ibrowse3 will have full support
Aweb is supposed to be being patched for css support.

iBrowse supports Javascript, but please, please, please do not use it except where you absolutely must. On my 50MHz 68030 nine out of ten webpages time out waiting for scripts to execute. It's the main reason I haven't done more web browsing on my Amiga.

Awesome! I'll be avoiding css and JavaScript then.

What size images would you recommend?

Do animated GIFs perform well? (Animated skulls! - Joke) If so, do they play at 50Hz?

Animated GIFs work well enough when used sparingly at small sizes. No idea if PAL has any issues with 'em, but since they're variable-framerate and typically no more than 10-20 FPS anyway, I would be surprised if that was the case.
