I am trying to find somebody who can repair/refurbish my 1940 monitor for me. There are three main problems with it:

Firstly I believe it has some dry solder joints and maybe needs some capacitors replacing, as sometimes red doesn't display (green/blue only) and it also makes a 'fizzing' sound until it has warmed up. I think there are internal parts that can be replaced/refurbished to resolve this.

Secondly, the speakers no longer work. I can get sound through the headphone socket but not the speakers.

Finally the VGA cable needs replacing as it seems to have a broken connection somewhere, the cable sometimes needs moving to get a picture. It is an internally wired VGA cable.

It could also do with recalibrating, as the picture slightly 'bleeds' on the left hand side. I believe there are internal knobs to do this.

If it helps, this is the monitor:

Again I appreciate this may be expensive for what is in most people's eyes a worthless old monitor, but if you think you could help please let me know.

first one with colours not not appearring is probably linked to another problem your having with the cable and or dry joints probably nothing to do with capacitors..that includes the fizzing noise you hear when it starts.
fizzing noise will most liekly lead to it not working eventually as thats probably in the power supply or lopt area(dry joint arcing when cold in a load sensitive area)...just so you know,it wont like being run like that for long periods.(your most likely hearing it for two or three seconds(i had one i would hear this for a few minutes it was that bad..) when it forst powers on)
it could even start to effect the picture geometry...lopts in some sets arnt just there to develop high voltage for the crt screen in some sets, some power other parts of the set like the field windings or power for the monitor for components even..

speakers not working but earphones are means its most likely the earphone socket...that would be way up there on the list for suspects and easy to test with a multimeter...probalby due to mecahnical stresses from wear or corrosion or just dry joints, its just a socket on a board

third one is most likely the same as the first one..

as for the bleeding,im not sure what you mean,if it had anything to do with internal settings this would be in dire need of a service(and i do going by your other problems, and its most likely linked to the above problems) and not just a knob twiddle /calibration most of the time but going by the other problems im suspecting corrosion on the board/components from storage...and/or many hours or even lack of use and storage conditions as suspect for dry joints and pots needing cleaning, board would need pulling for close inspection and most likly a repair and service and a definite clean of the internals.
ive had many a monitor like this or not working, and they work very well now.

as for them being worthless..im not sure as i have loads of crt monitors i still use and repair every now and then, there not all that difficult to repair or service.
shipping them around is a bit of a logistical nightmare sometimes as most wont insure them, but ive had no problems getting them around and i dont use bubble wrap(a waist of time with these) i use 3 to 4 inces of foam padding all around inside two or three strong boxes.and thatsn becasue they weigh about 11kg of glass and plastic

i wish you all the best.
