Does the Amiga 1000 68010 cpu upgrade help that much.

Hi, I am new to Amiga's and noticed that one some sites it is mentioned that the A1000 and A500 could be upgraded with a 68010. At the same time they mention that this might cause some compatibility problems with some games. My question is, is the speed upgrade worth the compatibility problems and are they really that noticeable or does it not effect that many games. Thanks for your time(currently trying to build a near max A1000).

Fun, cheap and easy.... but pointless upgrade - been there, done that. You will get about 5% extra speed on average (some task will have no speed up, others up to 15% - but this is RARE).

In return you will find quite a few 68k programs crashing and/or refusing to work.

BUT, one upshot is that the exit key in WHDLoad will now work. :)

Honestly, try to find an AdSpeed, or AdIde etc.

The difference is hard to spot really , I have some sysinfo shots on here and benchmarks too for an a500

fun to try but almost pointless :-)

You'll see a bigger speed increase with some fast ram + 68010

I will soon hopefully be getting a 2mb fast ram side expansion.

I had similar problems with the AdSpeed as well thats why I took it out I had it in a 2000 but even back in the day adspeed had mixed reviews
some said you could just go out and get a 68010 and get the same
results..

I've just upgraded my 500+ with an '010 and touch wood, everything is running fine both in 1.3 and 2.04 mode. I also have 2 megs fitted into my A590 HD. As to it being faster, I cant say I noticed much difference to be honest.

I hope it runs well, I just ordered one for my 500+ to tide me over until Jens releases a new accelerator for it. It's being paired with a Indivision and a dataflyer with 8meg fast for a whdload machine.

My 1200 is getting no love because of no vga out.

You're kidding right? OF COURSE it makes a difference! ;)

Of course I relatively recently brought 6 of these chips :shhh:

Not sure if I'm biased or not since I haven't even removed them from the packaging yet
