My father has some very rare wool/yarn used by fly fisherman to tie a very famous wet fly called the Killer Bug. The wool in question is called Chadwick's 477. He has a lot of cards of this rare wool, because when he heard it was going out of production he got his secretary to ring round all of the local area and locate it, then he drove around collecting it all up.

Anyway... he recently decided he was never going to use all of it so asked me to try selling 6 cards of it on ebay. I found some nice information about the Killer Bug that it is used to make, and clearly quoted the text with a reference to its original site. I didn't have a camera available at his house to take a picture of the wool cards, but found a stock image from a site talking about the wool and its popularity with fisherman, so used that stock image.

So I posted the sale for the 6 cards, and within a day I had sold 3 of them and had offers on 2 more. The money arrived quickly into Paypal for the sales and I packed the cards up ready to post on Monday of this week.

This morning I open my email to find my listing had been pulled from ebay because of a "Copyright violation - Unauthorised Listing Content". It seems some A****** has thought to funny to report my sale to ebay for using a stock image. Why do these people do these things?

And also in my inbox were emails from those who had already purchased some of them demanding their money back. The bad thing was I had already just posted the cards to them that morning before accessing my email. ARGH! :wooha:

Fearing the worst I logged into Paypal, but no refunds had been requested. So I emailed the buyers to assure them that even though the listing had been removed from ebay, their items were still safely on their way to them as originally paid for.

Why is Ebay so quick to remove a listing at the first mention that something might be wrong with it? They didn't even contact me prior to removing the listing to ask any questions or verify anything. It seems there is no trust and you are guilty regardless.

Another reason to hate and not use ebay. Sadly for anything outside of Amibay's interests it is still the best way to reach a global audience of potential customers.

This is just eBay protecting their own backs, which I can understand. I dont understand the kind of person that would report this though, its obviously someone with to much time on their hands and someone that is very bitter with life in general. You should cheer yourself up and give eBay a call, their Indian staff that are trained to say the obvious and NOT HELP will drive you crackers !!!

I bought something on Ebay in December. The seller never sent it and it was a nightmare to get my money back. I contacted the seller many times and they assured me it was on it's way. Finally they said that a relative had used their account and that I would get refunded. I never did, so I opened a case. Ebay closed my case saying the seller had refunded the money. Evidently they just take the sellers word for it.

There was no way to appeal my case, no way to re-open it online. There was NO appeal link in the resolution center and every link I could find directed me to use the online resolution center and appeal. I contacted Ebay and finally got someone who said she would refund me my money because I was a long time member. The refund was due in 7 days but it never came. 6 Days later I got an email saying that that I had appealed my case on the 6th day and that I would hear back in 48 hours, the worst 78 the email assured me. I never heard anything in 72 hours. Called Ebay again, the system of course told me to use the non-existent appeal link but it finally let me speak to someone after navigating through 3 levels of menus. They told me that the other Ebay employee didn't process it correctly and that they would refund me this ONE time only.

The seller is still on eBay selling stuff, has stiffed at least 2 or 3 others according to the feedback and the seller own admission and Ebay to my knowledge hasn't done anything to her/him. Interestingly enough the seller had near perfect feedback when I bought the item.

Whatever next.

Just take a pic yourself, re-list the cards you have left & hope you don't get another A**hole saying you can't take a picture with your camera because you are flouting copyrights...

Well to be fair, if you took that image without permission they have every right to end your sale due to copyright infrindgement. It's silly over a picture I know but as with most things these days in the UK I think it's all this Americanization going on, in this case their copyright control. I often find listings get the most interest with amateur pics anyway so it's probably for the best anyway.

I myself understand the annoyance of copiers on eBay since it has happend to me. I generally spend alot of time listing stuff carefully and neatly along with a good photo. I sold a StrongARM CPU a few years ago and when it ended a day later I saw an exact copy of my listing. In EVERY respect it was exactly like my listing (even right down to my personal terms and conditions!). This really p****d me off since I saw it as taking advantage of my selling techniques. I'd have allowed it if the guy had asked but the fact is he didn't and that for me was enough to take action

I totally understand you didn't intend it to be anything like that and you only copied a picture which personally I wouldn't have fussed about but all people react differently and take things in different points of view.

P.s. Just to finish my story, I reported the guy and sure enough his listing was removed but later was relisted and, well, the photo changed to a really crap quality one that would make a webcam still look good. Mind you, he didn't really learn his lesson since the title and discription was just a slightly shortened and edited version of mine. It didn't bother me after that though.

the reason is because NOONE actually checks the reports. They seem to automatically act with the worst manner first and if/when someone complains for some time they "correct" things in a month (or two) having as an excuse the "eBay members protection" ...

when i tried to get a listing for a fake SD card removed, Ebay wouldn't pull it, they said that the copyright owner had to complain themselves before an ad can be pulled, i contacted Kingston, then 2 days later the ad was pulled (strange huh)

Exactly the same happened with me regarding fake Playstation 2 memory cards being sold by a Chinese seller as originals. I reported loads of his listings but none were removed, saying exactly the same thing... that Sony would need to file the report themselves.

So why is it impossible when we try to get a listing removed which is obviously selling illegal items (surely a much more serious issue), whereas we use a stock picture, in my case not from another ebay listing, they pull the listing automatically. Mad!

I did hear back from the 2 buyers that had already paid for the items. The American buyer was very nice and polite and wants to continue with the sale and is happy with the deal.

The UK seller is however acting like a complete ****. He emailed me, ebay, paypal and anyone else he could think of within minutes of the listing being retracted from ebay, demanding his money be returned asap. He had already paid for the item and it has already been posted to him. I emailed him to inform him of this, and got the following reply back:

Dear David...I am sorry but after a worrying weekend I have lost all interest in this item. I shall post it back unopened. If there is no return address please send me one by e-mail. I appreciate that circumstances conspired to make a bad situation worse.
Kind Regards
Harold

Why would someone spend nearly a three figure number on an item and then suddenly lose interest in it? This buyer strikes me as someone I didn't really want to be dealing with in the first place. There are some mad people out there!

I dont think its hard to find anyone here on Amibay that hates eBay :D

I hate it too, if I sell something Im constantly on edge hoping that it is not a muppet who has bought it  My girlfriend sold a lego model to someone, she didnt leave feedback or acknowledge reciept until out of the blue 2 weeks after she got it (we checked the tracking number) she says a part was missing. The mrs's son has loads of these lego models and she has rebuilt every single one from scratch, including the one she sent so the buyer was obviosuly talking BS. Sandra sent a spare part from another model out of courtesy. No response for a week and a half, then she contacts the mrs again and says not only did she not get it she says that a models hair falls off and the head is missing....err hang on! The hair on this model is PART OF THE HEAD! She was caught out lying yet eBay couldnt give a monkeys when she left a neg :censored::censored::censored: The worrying thing is that this woman had a couple thousand in good feedback

I work in IT, and my long time synical view is that most users are idiots and liars (told you it was synical ;)). They never tell you the truth about what they did to f**k up their PC and they ignore PLAIN IN YOUR FACE warnings that the OS pops up  Using eBay is like dealing with users, they ignore the listing contents and have no common sense

You have my sympathy Harrison, eBay sometimes feel like a necessary evil

I had a similar problem. Bought a Express Card TV tuner for my laptop. When it arrived it did not have the necessary CD with the drivers and software on. Complained to the seller - he said download it from T'internet. Could not find the drivers for Win7. Asked for a refund, seller offered £3. I pressed wrong button and accepted instead of telling him where to stick it. Ebay were worse than useless and helped me not in the least.
They also pulled my listing for two antique bayonets, saying they do not allow weapons and knives to be listed. I pointed out to them several trade sites that were listing them. Did not change their mind.
So if anybody is looking for a 1st WW bayonet or a 2nd WW Eygptian one, you know where to come!!

Does no one ever rant about Amizon and the crooked bare faced robbing bast that sell through them.

For books you can get some good deals on second had ones through Amazon via the private sellers, but what I do hate is how Amazon dictate a minimum postage cost for all items... so you have to be careful because bargains can quickly escalate on price once combined and the £2.75 postage is added to each and every item, even if they are all from the same seller. Mad system.

But I think you will find people out to exploit any sales method, regardless of what it is selling, and whatever medium it is being presented.

Well I finally got the parcel I was waiting 3 weeks for, and had to pick it up myself. Was damn near about to do an ebay claim when as a last resort I phoned the sorting office and yep, they found it sitting there out back and as usual 'sorry we've got a backlog' in your area...

I really hope they sort this out, I'm going to get all my stuff delivered to work from now on as the Sevenoaks Depot is beyond a joke.
