Is there a good alternative to eBay for selling retro hardware? I made a mistake and upgraded my ebay account to business in January this year so that I could continue selling to buyers in Germany. I was able to do that because I used to be a sole proprietor but I closed my business this month as I got a regular job. Ebay support says that they can't downgrade it back to private. So now I can either open a new account and start from scratch or look for an alternative. I've had the same ebay account since 2004. It's a pain in the ass but I don't know what else I can do.

Easier to open new Ebay and Paypal accounts then it is to mess around with their customer services department trying to get things sorted out - as you have discovered.

Then you can try it on with proper eBay sellers by buying and not paying 🙄 Only issue you will start with 0 feedback and have to wait for 30 days before payment 😬

@Boing-ball

We all started out on Ebay with 0 feedback. How you conduct yourself whilst using the service is what matters and it will come back and bite you if you abuse it.

You will always have that percentage of people on there that try to get things without paying by claiming non-delivery, damaged in transit, etc. It's how you deal with those issues that's important for all concerned.

There's also eCrater. Commissions range from 0-3%. If someone finds your items themselves it's 0%, if they find it through a search engine it's 3%. It seems eCrater pushes the listing into the search engines. A nice thing about eCrater is you can list anything. While Amibay is great, it has a specific focus on items.

@miggymad

Totally get that. Just an experience I had recently with a 0 feedback buyer. Now blocked.

What I was eluding to, is when you start from scratch again with “0” feedback. EBay treat you as a brand new member. Therefore if selling goods, you will have to wait for your payout for roughly 30 days until you get trusted again….
Just something for the OP to think about if taking your advice 😉

Well my problem is that I was a sole proprietor. In Slovenia this means your tax number is the same for you as an individual and your sole proprietorship. Apparently it is possible to keep running a business account on eBay without actually being an owner of a business. Anyone know anything about that?

Hi Half Saint, I had a computer/game store back in the 90's that I closed and started an ebay account in 97 to sell off my remaining inventory. Like you it was sole proprietorship (Canada) after I sold it all off I wanted to switch back to private, and like you, they said no way Jose. So I have kept it as a business account since 1997 and just buy and sell my Amiga, Commodore stuff and my music stuff and other personal things off and on since and never had an issue. Don't know if this helps, but hope it does.

Hello,
You already know this site?

You might want to read up on this:

Talk of fees.

Other parts mention paying taxes etc… As well as using Credit Card for protection. Nothing to mention if the site will help you or not if any issues with buyer and seller.

Have used sellmyretro since 2008, and never had any issues with them.
It's definitely worth to look at! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

No issues whatsoever with SellMyRetro. I bought a lot of Sinclair parts and add-ons from various sellers in the past.
