We have gas central heating in the house but there are no radiators in the Kitchen. Not a problem when the oven is being used, but gets cold the rest of the time. It's a fairly big room at 15' x 8' so the cold air can create a draft into the rest of the house. It wouldn't be easy to get the central heating extended into there as there are no radiators near to the room and the pipework runs across the other side of the house.

Therefore I'm thinking a small wall mounted electric panel heater would work OK. I checked how much it would take to heat the room and the online calculators said for the size of room it would need a rating of 2182 BTU. Looking at radiators even a 700W radiator would be enough, which I was surprised at so shouldn't be too expensive to run.

After much looking I've found a Reina Arlec aluminium electric radiator which has a digital display with timer and remote control, and not a bad price. Has anyone used these? It looks nice and unobtrusive. Many of the others are quite ugly.

Can anyone recommend any other makes and models?

Ideally we want a remote control so we can set it via the remote mounted near the main house thermostat in the hall.

Alternatively we are interested in upgrading our main central heating thermostat and timer with a Hive one. This made me wonder if there are any electric wall heaters that could integrate into the Hive to make it a more seamless central control for both.

I'm skeptical about a 700W being enough. I used a 1200W in my office and it couldn't keep me warm. The size of the room is about 3.5 x 4.5 meters. Does the radiator that you chose come with a fan? That certainly helps heat up the room faster.

Some people I know also use air-conditioning units for heating.

We've decided on a different approach. We are going to install a 5KW wood burning stove in thr dining room fireplace which will easily heat at least the downstairs.

We suddenly decided any electric fire will be quite expensive to run, whereas we own our own woods full of wood to burn. So once installed is going to be free to run.

We might still find the kitchen doesn't heat up so will then think about an alternative again.

Electric convector heaters and fan heaters can dry the air which makes for a bit of an uncomfortable environment. I'd recommend oil filled radiators if you feel you need something extra later on. As I've not been in the electrical trade for many years I'm not sure what is available nowadays which might fit into a hi-tech home.
