I have been out of the emulation scene for many years now, preferring to play my games on the real hardware. If I'm honest I still do, but I have been hearing so much about RetroArch recently that I thought I'd give it a try just for the hell of it and I have to say I am mighty impressed with it, how many here have used this?

It is an awesome emulator, very impressed, I mainly use it for Mega Drive, SNES, PS1 and PC Engine games and it seems to work flawlessly at least on the limited number of games I have tried so far. You can add screenshots, box art and titles for games, it uses the NoIntro naming convention for artwork, so if you use those sets you are good to go, and it supports shaders that improve the look of games, for example mimicking CRT TV screens and they look really nice taking of the pixelated look of old games on an LCD screens.

But by far the thing that impresses me the most is how smooth and judder free the games are, back in the day with stand alone emulators I remember I always had trouble getting games to run smoothly, I am super fussy about this, I can't stand jerkiness and judder in games, makes them unplayable for me, but with a bit of tweaking in the settings (turning off audio sync) I am able to get super smooth gameplay at 60Hz even with PS1 games which is really nice. If you have not used an Emulator for a while like me give it a go, it's free after all.
