Looking for a cheap EPROM eraser for use with the recently purchased Willen programmer.

Any will do, and they are really cheap on otherbay.

Or, if you happen to have an air purifier handy, pop it open and put your chips in there.

Just remember, "Do not look into the UV light source with remaining eyeball".

Buy a small UV-C lamp (5W is enought) in a acquarium shop.
Use a neon circuit to light it on.
UV-C are dangerous never look into the light or expose your skin.

i would suggest this lamp:

it is on the same wavelength required for erasing eprom (254nm) 4w power.
be warned uv-c are dangerous i suggest to place the "eraser" into a shoe box and close it when lamp is on.
i created a wood box, inside is covered with alluminium foil. then i placed a microswitch so it does turn on only when the cover is closed.
i have built that in the far 90's and i still use it!

just get the one john suggested, you dont need an expensive eraser there not any better.

Also got one. Bought the cheapest I could find and works just fine. It was surprisingly well built. I checked the inside when I replaced the AC cord.

Agreed, as cheap as they are it's pointless to build your own. Plus there is the risk factor with a homemade job.

A bigger tray is about the only concession I would make to a higher priced model since occasionally I will update all of the firmware in a certain programmer at work, and that's 15 - 20 proms at a go. But this is such a rare event that even then it's doubtful it would be money well spent.
