Hello. In my ongoing, multi-year saga of modding my Amiga, broken motherboards and chopped up cases left in my wake, I've recently decided to go down the route of siting the 1200 in a 500 case, mainly to score more room for all the gubbins I'm cramming inside but also due to a fit of nostalgia, the 500 being the first Amiga I owned (Christmas Day 1991 was a happy one spent guiding Lemmings around, killing Space Mutants in Springfield and playing Captain Planet once before discarding it due to excess suckage).

All is well so far. Case Dremeled, motherboard sitting nicely. Now the keyboard issue. I'm aware of the 500 keyboard to 1200 hacks. The instructions here http://eab.abime.net/showpost.php?p=430612&postcount=6 look quite straightforward, even to my untrained eye.But what I'm wondering and hoping is that there is some way to extend the green ribbon of a 1200 keyboard by a few inches and use that, which I think is preferable as would not have to live with the 500s LED board. Any ideas?

Also, unrelated but related, can someone point me at a cheapish but good soldering iron, on ebay or wherever. The one I bought for a fiver a while ago is horrible and if I do try and solder wires to chips to get the keyboard going, this iron will destroy it!! One capable of that fine work but also with enough guts behind it to desolder the RF modulator at some point too.

Cheers!

i got one of these a few years back http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Dremel-Ve...t=UK_Hand_Tools_Equipment&hash=item2a10239de5 and i wouldn't change for anything..it's a brilliant tool.. I have done loads of soldering with it and if you take the end of it becomes a high temp narrow jet blowtorch.
I used it to fully replumb my bathroom and kitchen with soldered joints..

Top tool.
