Hello my friends: slowly im beginning to build again an A1200 for me...

I just got a 1200 mobo which lacks the mouse port (the blue one). So now, basically i have a useless A1200 since i have no mouse port

If anybody out there has a broken/spare A1200 mobo and wants to sell me just the mouse port, i will be very happy!!

On the other hand, is it possible to use a PC mouse port? Or there are compatibility issues?

Cheers!

Sebastian

You can make your own if you can acquire the parts. You'll need a 9 pin Port, a bit of IDE cable stripped down to 9 wires & an IDE IDC header. You can cut a 40 way down to 10 & hot glue the cap on once you have all the wires in correct orientation. You'll need to be able to solder to the back of the 9 Pin port?

See Zetr0's thread for the Diagram. (y)

Wow Kin! Amazing page!! I was missing that!!
Plenty of very good info!!

Guess i will have to tell my friend to solder it for me!!

I already have a 40 pin cable (taken from an old notebook) and its very easy to find a 9 pin port in my land so..guess it will be homemade after all!!

Thanks a lot for the info!!!! (y)

Another good place to find it ready to go is scavenging an old k6 pc, they have those COM: ports with the IDC header and 9pin connector.

Binned k6-2 motherboards have them, too.

Is the Amiga port wired the same as a PC COM port? If so, I probably have a spare PC COM port you could have for the cost of a first-class stamp. :)

So, could anybode confirm that mouse port has same pinout than a PC COM port? If so, i have plenty of PC COM ports all over my flat...

But i need some advice here, as i dont want to ruin my "new" A1200 mobo!!!

Thanks!!

I have a faulty A1200 motherboard here (The graphics output is blurry) so I shall test a PC COM port on it, in the interests of Science! and get back to you with the results.

Why not check the references via schematics & compare? :coffee:

Simple way to check: using the Amiga DB9 pinout (link), just check if the pin #7 have +5V. If so, the mouse port is OK.

Don't plug any device into the port before this test, which will do nothing to the computer. After the positive check you can use and abuse the port.

Re: WTB: A1200 mouse port

Thanks a lot for all your advice guys.

My very good friend dkaram have pointed me to Amigakit, and they have int stock pretty cheap.
So, instead of breaking something, i will go for the read-to-go mouse port

So mods, you can close thread now

:thanks:

As you wish Sebastian.

Thread closed.

PS: I'll collect that other hardware from your hands in October! I'll going to Buenos Aires to see the Depeche Mode show!
