Good Evening Everyone,

I hope all of my fellow Amibayers had a good Christmas and getting ready for a fantastic 2015.

I have been lucky this Christmas, that Santa and his helpers (Bryce and TC) have created a fantastic Christmas Present for me. (The Project was funded by my good lady wife and my father :) )

I have been putting together with the help from Bryce and TC a great little Acorn Electron System.

It consists of

  • Acorn Electron (Obviously :) )
  • Acorn Plus 1 Expansion
  • Slogger Pegasus 400 Disk Interface
  • Slogger DFS 1.02 Rom
  • PRES Advanced ADFS 1.15 Rom

After a bit reasearch over the internet and a some great support from TC and Bryce I have managed to do the following over the last 24 hours.

  • Use BBC Explorer to create mutliple game DFS disk images
  • Create a basic (in more ways that one :) ) boot menus in a lovely yellow and red scheme ( Was in Mode 4 :) )
  • Format blank Disks using DFS and ADFS file systems
  • Use Omiflop to transfer ADFS and DFS disk images back to disk after formatting them on the Elk.

So I have managed to transfer 10 disks so far with some great games like Arcadians, Zalaga, Thrust and Chuckie Egg being installed :)

I am really enjoying my Elk journey so far, and I will keep you posted as I progress :)

It goes without saying, I would like to say a big thank you to Bryce for building the Slogger Board Interface for me, and to TC for creating the Disk Drive for the Elk and offering some great help and support over the last 24 hours.

Great little machine, which I am looking forward to learning more about :)

Thanks for Reading :)

Thanks Mike :)

Although it does not have all the bells and whisltes of the Beeb, there is still alot of fun to be had with the old Elk.

Once you start to get your head around the OS, it is easy to see why it was so popular back in the day :)

it was clever marketing by Acorn - a mini bbc computer , just poorly executed marketing - they missed christmas 84 was it?a and had thousands in stock by Jan/feb when no one was buying but thats life.

i had a ti99 at the time and software vanished for it around this time, i looked at the electron and it seemed to have a lot of software, all be it briefly but in the end i bought a cheapo Spectrum 48+ and beeps where the soundtrack to my life for the next 12 months..

Manufacturing Issues did not help either with the Elk either :-( Esp. issues with the ULA. Some the arcade conversions are good though, and I have ordered the Acorn Electron World DVD, so I am going to be busy transferring lots of ADFS and DFS disk images over the coming weeks. Will be great to finally understand BBC Basic :)

Hi Paradroid90,
looks like your making the most of your new stuff :) Next recommendation would be a digital joystick card for the Plus 1. Unfortunately I don't have any of those PCBs left over. Maybe you should talk to TC about that.

Bryce.

Thanks for the tip Bryce :) , and once gain thank you for your help with the Slogger :)

Next mod, maybe the Sideways Ram, but I am more than happy with my set up :)

Just thought I would add my latest update to my DFS games menu disk. Used Mode 2 this time and managed to get access to the 16 colour pallete.
