Gauging interest in an item for potential sales thread?

I am in the process of making an/some item/s that might be of interest to some people. But I was wondering how I should go about gauging interest here on AmiBay before posting an actual sales thread. Any help would be appreciated. I guess, mainly would like to know where to post such a thread.
