Hi all

any pointer please?!

I've been going through some old amiga format ads, all working fine, last one i used was disc 17.

now i get this error message on boot up.

cache CDFS - cannot open scsi, device unit 3

(my cd drive has always been cd3:)

so now on boot up, no cd found, the cd drawer doesn't respond to the open button and the screen resolution, colours are fudged.

ok so i guess the assign from running the cd has changed these but usually they aren't permeant and go after a reboot? have all done so far.

I've just checked my idefix'97 floppy disc - yep, read errors all over the place, otherwise i'd just reinstall it and change the settings.

is there anything else i can do to 'go back'? the amiga format disc 17 is still stuck in the cd drawer.

thanks for any pointers

rob

donno how to help You with "go back" but i am sure You can open the tray manually. There is a small hole in front of the CD-Rom on the left side, You need to insert a needle or similar like a tool to remove SIM Card from iPhone, just a little bit longer. I use a straight formed paper clip to open the CD/DVD recorders if disks stucks..

When the WB screen colours are all to crap for me in this situation it's usually a software problem with idefix. Run find device and check the CD drive unit number if the system is even seeing it. If it's not then check your cables etc.

thanks for the replies. yep can open the drawer with a paperclip through the front.

if i just try to re install idefix it doesn't help. and find device doesn't see the drive. i have to use the early startup menu to select dh0 to boot from otherwise a black screen. the cd rom drive keeps clicking now.

also if i change the resolution back to the original size when i boot its gone back to a lower res and reduced number of colours. no idea why....

is there a way to delete idefix before i try to re install it again? remove its assigns. do i just take out the ide fix lines in the startup sequence?

ok I've run the uninstall program. i deleted the 2 CD files in L directory and now i don't get the cache cdfs missing requestor. workbench doesn't load up the same each time i reboot. seems odd.

thinking i might try and get a new cf card and start again from scratch.

Check the hardware and cables, if Find Device couldn't see you drive then you have a problem either with the buffered interface or the cdrom drive itself. IDE or power cables might have a problem too.

I have an answer to this. It was driving me crazy because I changed the SCSI address of my CD ROM. There are two places you have to change the SCSI ID. You can right click on the CD0 icon in Devs/dosdrivers and change the unit to your CD SCSI ID. Also if the Emergency_CD is in Devs/dosdrivers, open it in editpad because it is the mountlist and change the unit number there as well. So if you change your SCSI ID of your CD ROM be sure and change it on CD0 and Emergency_CD.
