There are some fantastic guides floating around on Amibay, and I just wondered if anyone would be able to do an idiots guide to (1) using the config tool for the Indy Mk2 and (2) updating the core?
I see lots of comments etc and some links over on EAB but cannot find any simple step by step guide.
If one exists here or elsewhere could someone direct me to it?

cheers

Its not so much stuck as scared to start.
I have read a number of comments on here where people who are senior members seem to be indicating that they are actually choosing to stick on the original core etc as they lose access to one of the screen modes?
Although I have the indy mk ii fitted and running via a DVI-HDMI cable, I know very little about it and have not even seen screenshots of the config tool, and from the descriptions it seems very complicated.

I am currently outputting it to a 21" Benq Monitor that it shares with my home PC.
The desktop is OK and is running on HighGFX 1024x768
Games appear in a smaller window off centred to the top right.

Will the new setup let me have one setting for the worktop and one for games? (some comments seemed to indicate this).
If I stuff up I dont have anything with a scart socket nearby that I could use.

Thanks for the reply by the way

Yep! Basically you are assigning MK2 modes to Amiga modes.
So you can choose HighGFX mode and assign to it whatever output resolution you want. And you can choose PAL and assign it a different MK2 output resolution. The MK2 then will automatically change resolutions based on what you tell it to do :)
The secret to the whole deal is a 2-part one:

a. create a valid VESA MK2 output resolution (or choose a ready made one from the tool , for VESA modes you can look at the thread I linked in my previous posts)

b. make sure that the output resolution can fit inside the amiga one with all it's line doubling/scanlines (very gross example is: you can't fit correctly highGFX 1024x768 on a 800x600 resolution .... )

Don't fret in trying the new tool, if everything goes wrong you always have the option to flash back stock settings or even the old 1st version core, all you need is a 2nd monitor to use with the RGB port in case your MK2 resolution comes out unusable ;)

OK - Have flashed the core (I think) and have the config tool installed.
Am now confused where to go/what to do next.......

Well, didnt really have a clue but have loaded keropi's config from the thread he linked to and seem to have a pretty good result, so thanks!

However, as this is mostly used for games am thinking of just getting a suitable monitor that will take the scart output and boxing the indy. Wont need to share the monitor then.

glad my config helped! I have some 50hz modes in there IIRC that provide smooth scrolling if the monitor used supports 50hz...
Truth be told, I have a trinitron tv next to the amiga lcd. In games the crt is better and I also see there is color difference as well. Plus the crt kinda "bilinears" the picture and makes the gradients super smooth.
It's not that the MK2 is a bad hardware now, still a crt is better for gaming IMHO. In productivity modes though the MK2 wins hands down

I got the Indy because I knew it would need to share a monitor with the PC and I wanted a better desktop resolution. Now I am using Igame I dont really use productivity stuff so is it worth it? Hmm. Looking to pick up one of those recommended LCDs that works well with scart as mentioned in the specific thread.

Cheers for all the help though.

I did try Xbench actually but found it a bit much. I prefer the style of IGame and screenshots etc and the simple listing and search options.

I have another quick question - I have just treated myself to a tv/monitor from the other bay, so the Miggy can have its own display without sharing.

Using the setup above works fine via HDMI on the LG 22LH2000 I have connected it to, but the workbench is fractionally blurry.

The screen res on the monitor is 1366 x 768 apparently, any suggestions for an improved setup with the Indivision ? I tried playing around with some numbers but got told to only select 8 VGA modes or something?

Cheers
C.
