myello fellow amigathigans

I've got a spare GVP A1230 Turbo+ II (aka JAWS II) which is defunc.

CPU: MC68EC030RP40B

The problem is that it is freezing up the A1200 after some time.

I had it overclocked for some time at 50MHz which I believe is the problem.

but before buying a new CPU I'd like to hear your opinions on the problem.

Swap the CPU for a real 50MHz unit and it will be good again, unless some other chip is getting too hot (like a CPLD). Check with it hooked to the Amiga.

You'll notice if some chip is way too hot using your own fingers.

BTW: a small heatsink glued over a chip is always a good thing.

I forgot to mention that the crystal is a 40MHz, and the CPU was tested in another accelerator which ran 50MHz.

it didn't have the freezing up problem before I "accidentally" over clocked it.
which makes me suspect the CPU.
though if it's not, I think it's a lot of money to spend to be wrong.

Are you sure?

Self-adhesive heatsinks are very cheap.

And a replacement full 030 is not something too expensive, too.

Well..
for a replacement or an alike CPU is around €30 + shippings, which usually is around €10-20

I haven't been able to find a full 68030@50 yet..

but if you have one in stock or know of a retailer, I'd be interested :)
it's not something that the few electronicstores have in store here in DK

for that matter, I'll be needing a 50MHz crystal and a 68882@50 aswell ;-)

Thread hijacking!

I have a caravan in a camping place in Gramado. A 9m caravan, BTW.

Good to have a home far from home. OK, not that far (88km). ;)

Next time tell me when you come and we will meet. :)

Nope, I'm a Bohemia guy. But I don't mind sharing a box of Brahma Extra with you. :)
