it seems quite a few are either not aware or just don't read the rules.

this part is quite apt.

Just giving this a BUMP because in the last few days I've closed down at least three threads that hadn't followed the above advice.

So If you created a thread and found it's vanished you now know why.

So to cut down on the administration, any new threads created without the required proof will simply be removed, no more back and forth "negotiating" with the member as to why they have to add this requirement.

I think it would be beneficial to link these in the Amiga forums "read before posting" post.

that's on the assumption they will actually get read, like the site rules when signing up or the sticky posts above this thread.

I didn't realize it was already amended to those posts. Oh, the shame! I guess every now and then you must not only have a look at the posts but actually fully read them.

And two more threads removed and closed so far tonight

Guys.. maybe I'm out of line here but is deleting the post without any contact at all not a bit harsh?

I'll put my hand up and apologise, I was one of the deleted posts from a couple of nights ago. I posted an A1200 (I've both bought and sold here over the past 10 years but not for a couple now) and I didn't take the time to read the sticky post because it didn't occur to me that much would have changed. Obviously this was my mistake, I should have read it over.

Fortunately somebody quickly declared interest and pointed out my mistake, so I went and immediately took a photo with the required proof to upload and append to the original post. However when I went to edit the post the thread was already gone; no trace of it to be found. If it hadn't been pointed by another user I honestly still would probably be none the wiser, because I don't think it would have occurred to me to check the rules when my thread vanished inexplicably.

I appreciate that you probably don't want to leave threads hanging around with expensive items for sale where ownership hasn't been shown.. but deleting it without making any contact isn't very welcoming for those that have just made an honest mistake. To be honest my knee jerk reaction was "f**k it i'll put it on *other auction site then*" which is not what I wanted to do at all because I would rather somebody from this community had a chance to get it.

Anyway, just my ten cents..

with 2 very active mods and other occasional mods the work to keep track of who we have asked to add proof and moderate invalid interest is well time consuming,

having to also put up a "who we have moderated" thread in the staff area who we have asked / moderated so we don't double down so to speak in addition to contacting the member and negotiating why ( ive been here 10 yrs, why the proof? its already packed away im not doing that ),

We are basically tired of asking the same question about the same thing day in day out .

add to that the normal day to day moderation of signups / filtering spam / bot signups , editing posts , checking feedback . member requests and "trying" to read EVERY post so we don't miss anything is a mountain task with the current staffing levels,

It's up to the members to keep on top of any rule changes, we sticky them and regularly bump them ( you can check ) still they don't get read.

we have over 25000 accounts , I'm guessing half of those are bot signups but:-

and it all comes down to US try keep YOU safe from all those scammers / thieves / scalpers wanting to steal your money.

I think we do a good job and if it rubs one or two members noses then that means we are doing a great job and I'm pretty damn sure most of our members are glad we are so active and vet each signup by hand, each and every bot is denied, there are no ads on Amibay or salaries paid, we do this for free in our spare time.

Amibay survives on Donations ( spineless plug there feel free to drop a few £ € $ ) and are running an 8yr old server we can't afford to upgrade ( why it can be slow ),

All it costs YOU ( i'm generalizing you as all members not picking on you directly ) is the hassle of an accurate up to date profile , photo proof that the item at the time of sale was in your possession , you conduct the sale in open forum only taking payment and shipping details to PM , use the feedback system to gain trustworthy and follow our site rules, I really like the fixed pricing no auctions as it gives anyone a chance of an item not just who has the deepest pockets.

Just to add to the above - I had 109 new posts to check when I got online tonight.

And just like all the other Mods and Admins I'm a volunteer with a real life to get on with.

If you find your thread has vanished then you can be certain that it broke the rules in one way or the other.

None of these threads have been deleted but just moderated out and can be seen by all Mods and Admins.

So drop a Mod or an Admin a PM who can then look into it for you just as DevilisH did earlier tonight ;)

There's no doubt you guys do a great job, and I'm sure everyone who has ever used the site to buy, sell or anything else on here is grateful that you do it on a volunteer basis; I didn't mean to diminish that at all.

All I was suggesting that it's a shame there isn't a middle ground between what you used to do in these cases (24 hours to provide proof?) and what you do now but I do appreciate that it all takes time that is already precious.

I also really like the other site rules (fixed price, no auctions) and will make sure to properly update myself before I list the rest of the stuff that I'm planning to clear out from my collection.

after everything he’s just said, and you’re still arguing the toss...? They’ve gone for the nuclear option because ppl clearly don’t read the rules.

Everyone here signed up knowing what is expected of them and it's not Admin's job to hold your hand.

Links to the rules are clearly displayed, sticky posts are in the sub-forums as well for you to read. Claiming ignorance of the rules is not a defence in my eyes.

We should all remember that ultimately it's our own account on the line and that it's a privilege, not a right to have one here.

I'm not still arguing the toss, I conceded that I understand why the policy exists.

Also it was never about the rules, I admitted right from the outset that I messed up and should have familiarised myself with the rule changes since the last time I was here. I would never even have mentioned my particular case if this thread wasn't opened.

The only criticism I had (past tense) was that no communication about the moderation action (the thread just vanishing), felt harsh, people make mistakes.

Just to be absolutely clear I have no issue; I just felt like I was being piled on to a little and wanted to try and clarify my original position.

Yeah that will be 23 years done, should of left this year for my full 22 year contract but due to the current pandemic I took their offer of an extra year but now I'm regretting that decision

I guess if you can handle 23 years in the Navy you may be able to handle being a Mod :run:
