HDD LED on A2000 not working

So, this is the only remaining hardware issue with my A2000. It's pretty insignificant, but it's been bugging me for a while, so I'd be interested to hear what you lot have to say on the matter.

My A2000 (like most) has a power LED and a HDD activity LED on the front, the power one connects on to the motherboard and the HDD one goes to a header on the SCSI card. The power LED works perfectly fine, but the HDD one never illuminates. This happens with an A2091, GVP-HC+2 and GVP-HC-II, with a selection of different hard disks. I've tried the header round both ways, still nothing.

Thinking it must be the LED, I plugged the HDD LED on to the motherboard power connector (the connectors are the same) and it works fine, so it's not the LED or the cable.


So, why would it not work on three SCSI cards with half a dozen different hard disks? Any ideas?

I cant answer your question directly Andy, but I ended up connecting the HDD LED on my A2000 directly to the SCSI HDD, it had 2 pins for LED. Works perfect! Keep it in mind

That might be the answer I'm looking for.

The connector on the GVP card is wired as:

GND
+5v
GND

Possibly, your A2000 is a 3 pin connector like this:

5v
-- blank
GND

You will need to move the 5v (red) connection to the middle pin

Does that make sense?

That makes every sense. Do you know what the pinout of the A2091 is? I guess I can try straddling the LED connector over some likely-looking pins on the card and see what happens.

I got it wrong,
The GVP connector (not sure about A2091) is wired like this:

+5v
gnd
+5v

So you will need to move the black wire to the middle pin.

I've attached a photo of mine connected to a GVP HC+8 Series II

Hikey was spot-on. The A2091 LED header isn't wired the same way as the A2000 LED connector (Way to go, C=). Aligning the connector 'off-by-one' solved the problem. So that's it, my A2000 is in complete working order! Job done!
