Hello from Amsterdam!
15 years ago I was an active collector of everything related to Socket 7 systems, with huge numbers of motherboards, CPUs and period-specific video cards and sound cards. Unfortunately I was moving from a house with garden shed and cellar to a small apartment in the big city with very limited storage space, so I had to sell or give away all of that. For the last years I've been satisfying my computer-related curiosity with my job as an engineer at a major telco. Now we've moved to the suburbs and my children are getting old enough to be interested in computers too. Modern computers are powerful, functional beasts - but so integrated that building one is hardly an educational experience. To understand subsystems you need controller cards, and that means going back to my old stomping grounds, computers from the mid 1990s. Added advantage is that you can't watch brainless Youtube on one of those beasts - far better to play brainless retro-games
15 years ago you could get that stuff by the cart-load just about anywhere, now things are a lot harder to find. But here on Amibay I've already seen piles of exactly the things I need, so here I am
