Hello everyone!
Very glad to have found this forum! I'm looking to get back into the Amiga after a fair time away, and trying to decide the best place to start... First a bit of history:
As a child of the 80's, I first came to the Amiga in the form of the Amiga 500 purchased by my parents in the early 90's as an upgrade from the Amstrad CPC 6128. Like many here, the impact the Amiga 500 had on me is hard to overestimate. Initially through gaming, a few favourites for me: Exile, Pinball Dreams/Fantasies, F/A18 Interceptor, Bloodwych, Jetstrike, Paradroid90, The Settlers, and of course Lemmings... my word... Lemmings. I was obsessed with that game! My mum even knitted me Lemmings jumpers and a cuddly Lemming! Around the mid 90's my parents upgraded to an Amiga 4000/030, and my interests broadened into a world of creativity through video titling (Scala) Music composition (Octamed) and artistic endevours (Deluxe Paint). Later in the 90's, alas, we moved onto PC's, and I embarked on an education and career in electronic engineering and microelectronic design/implementation no doubt heavily influenced by those interactions with the Amiga.
Sadly the Amiga systems of my parents didn't survive the various house moves, and I'm looking to re-connect with the Amiga systems of my youth but... how to start?
I guess first of all I'd like to acquire an Amiga 500 and a few of the games of my youth, purely to scratch the nostalgia itch. I'd also be interested in acquiring some of the other Amiga systems that I've been fascinated with. I love the design of the Amiga 1000, and would also like to get an Amiga 2000 up and running. An Amiga 4000 would be great as well, by my the price of them!.... you can see where this is going right?! before long, I can see myself ending up with a huge number of Amiga systems and will have to contemplate moving to a bigger house... I'm sure some of you can relate to this, right?!
Through my profession, I'm not a stranger to a soldering iron, and debugging and repairing faulty electronics is a bit of a hobby of mine, so I would be delighted to get hold of faulty Amigas and restore them to operation, as a route to Amiga ownership. As such I'm hoping, as and when I'm deemed worthy enough, to be given access to the recycle bin here.
I'm very much looking forward to getting back into the amazing world of Amiga!
