Hi, I'm Kevin from Sussex in the UK.
I got my Amiga 500 plus back 1991 as part of the Cartoon Classics bundle. I remember at the time (pre internet age) the Amiga magazines were blindsided by it's introduction and there was no mention of the model in them for a couple of months. When I finally made the pages of the magazines a few months later, I initially though I must have bought just at the wrong time, so was pleased to discover that I did in fact have the latest model. Back then the magazines went to press a few months before the release day and a month or too ahead of the cover date. So the January 1992 issue, would be on the shelves in November 1991 and had news from September. A big change from the daily news we get nowadays.
I was an avid user of the Amiga, but I switched to the PC in 1995 and the Amiga was consigned to the loft. Looking back, I am surprised how short my amiga years must have been.
In later years I became interested in the emulator side, initially with UAE, then WinUAE and lately on the Mac using FS-UAE. I have bought most of the releases of Amiga Forever over the years and have some configs that are beyond the wildest dreams of when I just had the Amiga 500 plus.
About 4 years ago I decided to resurrect my Amiga, but when I bought it down from the loft, was saddened to discover it would no longer boot up. Then about 2 year ago I decided to investigate it further, at that was when I discovered the dreaded leaky battery issue. So I spent the last 12 months teaching myself how to solder and repair broken tracks, and to trace continuity - then finally about 2 months ago I finally had the skills necessary to repair the amiga.
I am now determined to get the most out of my amiga hardware. I have the ACA500plus card now so have CF hard disks. I have over 500 floppy disks including many cover and PD disks. I am slowly going through them to see what I have.
Just this week, I swapped out the internals of my power brick with a modern PSU from Meanwell.
Today I was searching for my external floppy drive, with no luck. But I did manage to find two more joysticks and an Amiga compatible mouse, I also found the Roboshift Mouse/Joystick switcher. It was while looking for information on the latter, the I discovered this site.
