I could wrote a couple other countries as well, since i become a bit older, after a while i have an urge to move somewhere else driven by curiosity and adventure.
But! This supposed to be an Amiga(Commodore? Retro computer?) forum so let me talk about my past and my computers.
I was about 6-7 when i first seen a microcomputer, i think it was maybe a Spectrum, but the game was definitely Space invaders.
Then few years later my school had two C16 so we spent several hours after the classes was over, mostly playing Kikstart.
I was maybe 12 when i finally got my own. C16, upgraded to 64k ram. Now when i try to recall games it's not so hard, Super cobra, Excorcist, Invincible, Elite.
Many of my friends had C64 -i never owned one, about to change this-, one of them had an interesting piece, a Hungarian company made Videoton TV computer.
Certainly, the main use of any of these computer was gaming, however i was interested in programming as well but i don't have the required binary brain.
Then - age 14, Amiga500, the incredible machine. I was stunned about the graphics, the sound, the speed, the amazing demos and games, i spent countless hours, days and nights with it.
In the beginning i had no monitor, no tv modulator with it, my friend borrowed his old russian tv modified to monitor for me for a while, then my mom bought me a new TV with Scart connector and i built a cable to have nice picture.
I also had a HDD controller made by Cornelius with a Maxtor 850MB drive in it and 4 megabytes of ram.
On the audio part i had and i still have it actually, an Aiwa NSX-999 MKII minihifi, still in daily use after about 20 years. Will do a full recap soon because the poor thing producing a few weird symptoms.
Around 1995 i got a new Amiga, the mighty A1200, i had to sell my A500 to be able to buy it. Months passed and the A1200 become a bit more and a more every time.
Apollo 1240, multisync monitor, modem, PS/2 mouse adapter, CD-Rom, CD writer (in 1998, it costed a fortune haha), i built it to a tower then, internal scandoubler then PPC card (cheapest one 040LC/603e160).
The BPPC didn't last long, i had a chance to get another so i sold the old one and bought a full 040 603e+ with a 240 MHz cpu on it. Then i bought the ONE. BVisionPPC. Should i say it? Ofcourse i still have this configuration.
Last year i just had a feeling after watching countless videos on youtube i need to check my old faithful.
What a mess i made when i was younger! Wires all around, stupidly long scsi cable, so first i just cleaned and sorted everything i could, and replaced the old AT power supply to a newer 300W branded one.
Big breath, then i pushed the power button. Fans spinning up, HDD spins, power led half bright.... no screen. Well... no surprise i abandoned her for 15 years. Then something just popped up in my mind, the BPPC always needed a reset after poweron. YES! Full bright power led, and she boots!
Ofcourse i had a resolution and refresh rate my flatscreen couldn't handle but i figured out how to reset the monitor drivers so i had picture! Good, let's check the caps. Well, recap has to be done, one capacitor had a nice round top.
To restore my Amiga past i bought an A500 recently, equipped both computers with Gotek drive, made the OLED mod which is amazing i strongly recommend to do it if you still have the regular 3 digit display.
Every time i visit back home i make some upgrade on my machines. Last time i powered up my C16, poor thing needs a keyboard refurb, the 14 years old me glued aluminium foil on the key rubbers. It works but it's hard to control how many characters i enter
Almost forgot my pretty old Macintosh SE which i refurbished last autumn, will post some images later - the lithium battery was literally exploded inside along with a few caps. Looked terrible but the the pcb and the chips suffered no damage so it works again.
Except for the fact it didn't boot...
Soon, in about two weeks i'll visit home again. This time, i'll do some interesting stuff. First of all - a DIY 512k memory expansion for my A500.
The second one - i will make my dream Amiga. I already bought everything i need - Desolder tool, flux, socket, crystals and hopefully a Rev6 68060 (from Ebay, cross fingers it's a rev6).
Yes, i'm going to upgrade my BlizzardPPC - or destroy it completely... i hope not!
Certainly i thought i'll make tons of pictures about the project then i had a better idea : i'm going to livestream the whole process on youtube.
Check back later i'd like to do this on 1st of May.
This is getting a bit too long now, so thank you for your time and see you later!
