Hi there, I have an A1200 completely standard atm, I have installed Classic WB lite and I also have a DVD-ROM installed and working.

When using WHDload I keep getting errors regarding not having enough memory, How do I uninstall things from workbench to free up some ram until I get an accelerator.

Regards
Stu

Try to remove any uncessary goodies from your WBStartUp drawer, and if you have a backdrop, just remove it.

Hi mate, cheers for your help, I have no backdrop and it shows that I have 1,185,280 graphics mem at top.

I think I need an accelerator with at least 16 meg on it, time to save up me thinks

It says Can't Allocate ExpMem in WHDLoad

1,185,280 is very low. You might need to disable some stuff in your startup-sequence &/or user-startup.

Stuff like Magicmenu etc.. Also check the screen colors in Sys/Prefs/Screenmode. If you are at 64 colors or more that will really eat away at your chipmem. For now go for 8 or 16 colors. Do not use screen modes higher than PAL HI-RES.

You do not need 16MB though it is nice and the more ram the better. Even 4MB fast ram is good if you only care about WhdLoad.

Hi Dougal,

I have nothing in wbstartup at all, deleted everything in there and still the same error.

How do I see what is using my ram up. What else can I delete?

I'm using Pal Hi res and 16 colours

Use the multiboot feature of ClassicWB!
Hold down left or right mouse buttons during boot for some nice low memory options.
(Including some nice whdload game launchers, depending on CWB version)

I've got some games working now yay :-)

Thank for your help :-)

You can also alter the buffers on the hdd partitions to free up memory.
Default is normally 80kb's for each partition.

So if you had 3 partitions, then your loosing around 240kb'd of memory.
This way, you can always use the addbuffers command in startup-sequence to increase size.

Try 30, in hdtoolbox. This will then use 30kb's, remember to set each partition.
Warning, dont alter anything else in hdtoolbox as this can result in your partitions being erased.

AHHH

I have 4 partitions thats where it's going, thanks mate

Theres also the filesystems in the RDB.
If your using FFS, then thats all you need in the rdb.
If you have SFS, then you can remove FFS.

This will also free up memory.
