Hi all,

I'm having a really strange problem with both WinUAE and FS-UAE that I just cannot get my head around.
I'm trying to copy the complete collection of WHDLoad games to my CF Card destined for my A600 (and possibly going to do another for my A1200), but keep getting strange lockups during the file copy.

I'm copying the files from a folder PC side mounted as a psuedo-HD in WinUAE (or FS-UAE) and copying to my CF card which is already prepared using PFS (I've also tried FFS) and copying the files using Directory Opus 4.12 (iirc - it's whatever version is distributed with ClassicWB)

The problem I get is as follows: part wat through the copying process, it just pauses - the emulated Amiga is still functional, but the copying process just stops - there's no reading/writing going on anymore. It happens at random, there's no pattern. I end up having to reboot, but it regularly stops at the same filess - if I change something (like raising the amount of buffers in HDInstTools for the drive/partition I'm copying to) it'll get a bit further, but happens again. So basically, how the f*** am I suppose to actually copy this stuff???

I've tried the following:

- WinUAE 3.2.2.0 vs FS-UAE 2.6.2
- Changing Kickstart ROM version (tried 2.0, 3.0 and 3.1)
- Changing CPU (tried emulating the destination hardware exactly and tried emulating 68040 with quickest settings I can get away with)
- Tested under Windows 7 and Windows 10 host OS
- Tried writing to the CF card directly (mounting under WinUAE) and also tried making an image of the CF card (WinImage) and writing to that (under WinUAE and under FS-UAE)
- wiped the CF card / image, re-partitioned with PFS and tried again (and again tested with FFS instead)
- swaering and cursing
- I even reinstalled my laptop that I was doing this on, wiped the C: drive and reinstalled Win7 Pro

Any advise would be greatfully received!
I'm starting to lose my temper with all this WinUAE / FS-UAE stuff now. I'm running WHDLoad 18.2, not that this makes any difference, as the problem is just plain old AmigaDOS.

I've not tried copying with just a plain old AmigaDOS prompt yet, so wondering whether to try that next.

Any help greatfully received

Thanks

Mine locked up too trying to copy large files in one go ,in the end I just copied them over in smaller chunks and that went ok .

I'll give that a try, just not sure how smaller chunks I need to go ...... at this rate, I'll end up copying 1 game at a time.

Do not copy the files that seem to giving you probs obviously, I too had that, so I un -highlighted them in dopus and copied them at the end, I know how you feel mate you sit and wait and think its all going swell then...........:(

MAXTRANSFER setting?
Or it could be corrupted files/structure... I ran DiskSalv repair and couldn't believe how much stuff was wrong... still, it explains all the lockups I'd experienced ... runs as smooth as silk now!

It's happening in an emulated environment, maxtransfer is 0x1fe00 as the destination will be a CF card
I tried copying in smaller chunks, I got a heck of a lot further, but then still had problems part way through.
I swear both WinUAE and FS-UAE used to be more reliable at doing this.

I had issues with a USB to CF adapter at the PC end causing random lockups while copying WHDLoad game packs within UAE. Originally the adapter was plugged into a USB3 port, for some reason switching to a USB2 port sorted it out. The CF card needed wiped using the CLEAN command in DiskPart before it would play nice. I also remember changing the uaescsi.device setting within UAE, although I cant remember if this made much of a difference.

I found another way that worked.
In this case, looks like Dopus was the problem.

So, I opened an AmigaShell and did the following

copy SRC: DEST: all clone noreq

and left it ..... came back a couple of hours later, and hey presto! it had finished :)

Excellent , looks like we will have to be wary of Dopus by the looks of it

Just so that you're aware, it was Dopus 4.12 that I was using.
I've not tried other versions. I don't like Dopus 5 though, it just doesn't look right to me.

Thanks Woody I too was using 4.12, and like you hated 5, just cant get my head round it :)
Now use Winimage and back that cf up and save any heartache sometime :)
