Hey there just picked up an Amiga CD32 console without any accessories or power supply. I have an Amiga 500, so I ordered a meanwell PSU and am 3d printing a case right now. I have a 4 pin Male Din cable on order and am psyched to get this bad boy powered up and going. I'm going to need a controller, I think I can convert a sega Genesis controller I need to do some research. I want to get a terriblefire sx-32 type upgrade going.

Hello! Great plan! Enjoy your new Amiga CD32 expanding it should be fun. What are you planning to do with it? Whdload versions of CD32 games should run great on it

Thanks amigean. Yes I always wanted an a1200 but unfortunately the market in the us is scarce so after acquiring a few a500 systems I’ve finally got a cd32 to turn into the “a1200 i never could get”. Now I know to diehards the cd 32 is not an Amiga 1200, but with the terriblefire and an 050 processor along with a populated ps2 keyboard port I think I could get pretty close.

My hope is to load up a compact flash card using an emulator to build whdload out to be what I see on youtube from some youtubers. Having never really messed around with Amigas much I'm a newb.

I am mostly a macintosh guy.

Anyways but first things on my list in order:

1. Order a console 5 cap kit and recap the system.
2. Find or build a controller.
3. Order a terribleFire and riser card with RGB out and hopefully one with a ps2 keyboard.
4. Build the powersupply from a meanwell 65watt power supply I ordered along with a 5ft Din 4 cable from Amazon.
5. confirm the system powers on and cd laser works.
6. Research and purchase workbench along with kickstart rom(s) that I need, i hear conflicting info on what versions I need for this setup.

Regards,
Mike

Hi and good luck with the project! I lived in LA for about 10 years or so so I can definitely sympathise there, I just ended up straight-up giving up on the retro computing hobby until I came back home fairly recently, everything was just so much scarcer and more of a pain to deal with. Sounds like you're managing better than I did anyway!

@cheeba thanks! If you have some amiga stuff and want to hang send me a dm.

I just got finished opening and inspecting the internals of the cd 32, and to my surprise the caps all appear fine no leakage visible, i think this unit was rarely used and stored in a dry cool place.

Unfortunately for me, looks like z222 is in bad shape...

From the little bit of searching i did just now it seems this is used in the composite and rf circuit so I might just ignore it as I dont think ive ever seen a component like it before.

Also I just finished printing the top of the meanwell case:
