Hi Chaps 'n' Chapess's
I'm Barry. I remember fondly my childhood with 8 bit machines... ahhh..
It all started when i was about 14 and for some reason, on the way home from school. I went into a newly opened Computer shop. WOW... what a world of wonderment greeted me - i had never seen such a variety of adventures and excitement - and without the need for a bunch of 10p's
As some of the machines were powered up at the desks - i sat down and played on a Dragon 32 - a cartridge game called Frogger. I was in a different world.. and loved it.!
After much nagging (and the fact i used to hang around the local arcade, which my mum hated), i was bought a Dragon 32 of my own.
But, i still kept going in after school and not leaving until closing time. I eventually made such a nuisance of myself that they offered me a job helping out in the shop - bringing in other kids, with paying parents. There was of course no monies involved - only chips bought on Saturdays, discounts and whatever games I could copy with my 'tape to tape' unit. I just couldn't get enough and became good friends with the shop owners and their son.
I went on to do a computer course - BTEC in in computer something or other. and i then had a placement in Boots - on their computer department (remember them?)
and that's how it all started for me.. I, unsurprisingly now working in IT but i miss those early days of wonder. Maybe it was the fact that, for the 1st time in my life, I knew more about something than my parents... and indeed most of the adult population at the time.
Sadly, this might no longer be true
Anyway, I have A LOT of Retro computing stuff that hopefully I will be listing on here.
Spectrum, Dragon, CBM 64/128, BBC, Electron, MSX, Vic20, C16 etc...
---------
Thanks
Barry
