Holding off Retro Stuffs

I'm still on a downsizing exercise. I'm down to about four Amigas now, with the goal of only two now in sight! I've decided to focus on depth rather than breadth. I'd rather spend my cash on doing cool things to my A1200 and A3000, rather than stockpiling loads of basic models. I've actually been really good and not bought any retr0 stuff in a very long time. That said, I think I owe myself a couple of new toys in the new year! The A1200 deserves a Blizzard IV SCSI kit and the A3000 deserves a Mediator 3000Di.

I keep telling myself this is the last thing and then I end up buying more stuff...

It's a vicious circle of buy, sell and re-buy...

Every now and then I get a feeling that it might be a sensible thing to rationalize my collection a bit. I mean I got three different systems to run Amiga software, three systems to run C64 software, three to run Spectrum software and two to run MSX software. In each case, there's one all round machine that would suffice quite nicely. Most of the stuff stands idle as I usually concentrate one or two machines at a time. There's also a couple of projects waiting for me to find time to assemble them. The thing is that I like fiddling with the hardware and the object of fiddling varies based on which system I'm most excited about at the moment. You really can't fiddle with an emulator, or of course you can but it's different kind of fiddling. The fiddling factor also justifies different models of the same system, therefore I'm reluctant to let go of any of my systems.

On the other hand, I'm pretty happy with what I got and with the exception of a Memotech MTX I don't have any urge to get into new systems. I'm also shifting down in getting upgrades to the existing systems. In the future I hope to be able to properly display all my systems.

This is the crux of the matter, to me. Having a huge pile of A500s and A1200s doesn't gain me anything I already have. I only really need the one A1200, and the 1200/030 I have under the telly is my main Amiga. But I couldn't bring myself to part with the A3000, so I'm allowing myself to keep that one. Don't really need it, but it's nice to have. I really don't need any more though!
