Looks more like an MSX joystick .

ATARI , C64 and AMIGA as well as the SPECTRUM interfaces all use the same pinout for the joystick , that includes the 2600 .
Maybe you had an adapter , or cable that converted it to ATARI ?

No it was straight to the 2600.
My working joystick has the correct pinout for Amiga use, that's why we are trying to figure out the problem to Xanxi's joystick.

It is an aftermarket brand , maybe you had one that was made for the ATARI etc.. I know a lot of joystick manufacturers popped up making them for all the different machines of the time ( the same stick , just wired differently for each machine ) .

If the stick is re-wired to the ATARI pin out then it will work on the AMIGA , etc...

I guess this is not your problem.
When you test the pins of the connector, how do you do that? Do you use dupont cables?
If you just push the probes inside, it is not reliable enough. The probes may not touch the pins.

I push the probe inside after removing a small plastic cap which makes the metal part longer but it still needs by a small cone so you are probably right about bad contact. I will try to use a dupont wire instead then.

If you give a list of what colour for what pin then we can give details of how to re-wire it for the amiga .
