Hi,

What is the easiest way to transfer files from my PC to my Amiga 4000T?

With my A1200 it is easy. I just shove a CF card into my PC to copy the files and then shove it into my A1200 (as it has the FAT32 drivers).

But alas, the A4000T does not have a PCMCIA slot..

However, I have the wonderful Mech SCSI card reader in my Amiga 4000T. Can this be used for FAT32 like to A1200?

Regards,

Hi Ed,

I'm sure those more knowledgeable than me will pop along shortly, but here's a list of ways that I do it (some a hardware dependent);

- For small files, you can use a DD PC formatted floppy disk as the Amiga can read these without any issues;

- USB via a DENEB or similar device although I understand these are hard to come by now;

- If your Amiga is networked, you can transfer files via the network connection

- I think have the same SCSI multi-card reader that you have and from memory, I think the Amiga is fine reading a FAT32 formatted card but remember it's attached to your SCSI bus, so it's not hot swappable, you have to boot the machine with card already inserted in the reader (somebody correct me on this though if I'm mistaken)

- The same as above, but with an IDE SD-Card reader attached, again, not hot swappable but it gets the job done

- If you don't want to use FAT32 formatted SD-Cards (or it doesn't work), you can always format it in a native Amiga file system using WinUAE on your PC, transfer the files and then put the card in your reader, boot your Amiga and access things that way; or

- Attach a CD-ROM (either SCSI or IDE) and transfer files that way.

By far the easiest way is via USB, but I also use CD-ROM and network transfers as well.

Cheers

Mark

Given using a CF card in an adapter will not allow you to remove the card while the Amiga is running, the best option as mentioned above is to either get an Ethernet card and transfer files over the network or get a USB card like a Deneb.

My A4000 has a Deneb and it is the most useful card I have gotten for my Amiga.

I have a SCSI Card Reader on my Amiga 4000T and works exactly as in an Amiga 1200, I have it connected to the internal A4000T SCSI chain, I have a hard disk and a CDROM connected too, and works like a charm.

PD The CF is hot swappable

Hi All,

Thanks everyone for your responses! I know that the DENEB would be the ultimate solution but its a little but too expensive at the moment.

Some more details...

I currently have my boot drive (a CF card with a PCMCIA adapter) in the first slot of the Mech SCSI Card Reader.

I want to hook up another CF card into the SCSI chain (by using the CF LUNs 1 slot of the Mech SCSI Car Reader. I also want this second CF card to be Fat32 so that it will be easy for me to transfer files from PC to Amiga.

Can I really safely hot swap this CF card that is on the SCSI chain?
What things do I need to install in my A4000T to make this work?
Do I need Fat95?
Compactflash.device?
Do I need to adjust the mount list?

Regards,
ed...
