What is a good size for USB drive for use on Gotek? My thumb drives are all 128Gb or larger and have only one that is 1Gb from 2015. What is the larges that I can get away with... Also, do I just copy a floppy to the Gotek like just another hard drive file or is there something special that I need to do? I have not really have a chance to do anything with it as my 1Gb thumb drive is almost completely filled already. I have over a hundred commercial software in storage for decades now that I would like to put into the thumb drive for simpler access (not to mention that I do not trust the floppies anymore due to their age). Thanks.

You need to create ADF image files of the floppies for the Gotek to read. You can do this on your Amiga or on a PC (using a GreaseWeasel or Drawbridge). As far as size of USB thumb drives... remember that most Amiga discs will create 880 kb ADF files. So a 4 GB thumb drive can hold roughly about 4500 floppies worth, if my calculations are correct.

@digii3

A good size of USB thumbdrive for you is either an 8GB or 16gb for your ADF files. Consider a 32GB if you are wanting everything including any commercial stuff, on a single thumbdrive.

I personally use a 16gb which has both games and demos stored in their respective folders (ECS/OCS, AGA). Anything commercial I prefer to keep installed on the HD for quicker access.

Just a quick additional ... Get 2 thumbdrives of equal size - one for everyday use and the other for backup. From past experience, it's a real pain having to collate everything again if the thumbdrive goes bad. Much easier to copy from the backup onto a new thumbdrive ;)

Thank you. Yes my goal is to put everything Amiga related on that drive. The backup system I’m using is a the high ability enabled set of Synology NAS with off site Hyper Backuo. It is mainly for the convenience of use. Again, thank-you.

I like the Sandisk mini USB sticks, as large as a fingernail. They don't protrude too far and are neat. The Gotek also works best with HFE images, converted from ADF's with HxC Floppy Emulator software.
