As title really. Looking for a Hard Drive at 500MB or less (preferbly more then 300Mb). Also ideally reasonably quiet, don't mind a bit of hard drive wirr but not something that's going to be a screamer! :p

Thanks for looking.

P.s. If it can be pre-installed with DOS 6.22 and/or Win 3.1, so much the better but isn't essential.

A have a Quantum TrailBlazer 850mb (removed from my 486)

a seagate 270mb and some 2.5,4,3 and 3.1 GB drives. Quantum,Maxtor,Seagate and WDC

If you're interested rest with PM.

Thanks but 270mb is a little too small and all the others are too big. Plus there's postage to add from Greece which won't be cheap since they do have some weight to them. Sorry but I would have to pass on your offer. :(

@Tokyo, would this be for the mega pc?
If its 3.5" your after i might have some in a box you can have for postage but i don't have a way to test them as i don't have any pc's or working miggys at the minute.
I'll have a look tomorrow and let you know what i have.

Mike

I have these drive's :

- Seagate ST3491A, 428.1MiB (2x)
- Quantum Fireball 3.5 Series, 640MiB

I should be able to test them so let me know if you are interested.

Funny enough it is, i'm looking at upgrading it as much as I can and a bigger hard drive would be pretty useful. Have you any idea what postage will be for one of your drives (if you can find one near 500Mb)? :)

Il see how scrappy's deal goes first but I might be interested, though postage may be steep from Netherlands.

Hi Tokyo, had a look today and i found a box of about 20 IDE HDD's.
The only two small drives are a Samsung WNR-31601A (1.61Gb) and a Quantum Maverick MV54A011 (560Mb).
As i said before i actually have no way to test them but if you want to try i'm willing to send both or just the smaller 500Mb to you for the postage which shouldn't be a lot.

Pm me your address and i can post tomorrow and let you know if your interested.

Mike

@Tokyo, sorry buddy.
If you want the drive to try it let me know, its of no use to me its just sitting here.

Il have to pass mate sorry. :(

[EDIT] I done some research and the BIOS detects upto 504Mb apparently (1024 cylinders, 16 heads, and 63 sectors per track). :sigh:

PM on the way to SunDown79. . .

You might still be able to use a physically larger disk, even if the MegaPC can't address it all. I've certainly seen that to be the case with other PC systems and hard disk limits.

I'm just going by what google has come up, by the jist of things, it sounds like it just won't communicate with anything larger.

I've got a 425.3MB Western Digital Caviar 2420 :)

I need to test it as it's not been used for years!

If it formats ok etc, you can have it for the cost of postage.

I'll let you know tomorrow.

Cheers

Also, what about using a CF/IDE solution? 512MB CF cards are pretty easy to find and might just work. :)

512Mb won't because the BIOS is limited to 504MB, it just wouldn't boot otherwise. Good suggestion but even so, you don't get that evocative early 90's hiss you get from these drives. :p

Got no reply from hektic. :( Can anyone else come to the rescue?

I've got a 214MB Seagate that came with my A4000/030 if that's any good to you? As far as I know it's still in full working order, but I'll run HDAT2 over it before I say for definite - don't want to give you a dud!

At the risk of stating the obvious, have you tried a larger hard disk?
I had a spare 20GB one, it just didn't play ball as I expected. Plus others have reported it elsewhere of various forums who own this machine (Amstrad MegaPC) so I wasn't too hopeful it would work.

That would do the job ok if I don't get any offers from people with something a bit larger. Ofcourse it would depend alot on how much you are asking for it (also postage costs and all...) and if it's not one of them screamers like some of them Seagates. But still interested anyway. :)
