It's not so often, but each time i must insert a card in the Amiga 1200 trapdoor slot, it's :censored: such a mess...
Is there a cool way of doing this without getting  ?

Gently is the watch-word here. You have to give the card a little wiggle from side to side as you apply gentle force to push the card onto the connector. A finger on the edge of the card and up against the SIMM socket seems a good place to apply said force.

If there is little or no room then it's time to dis-assemble the A1200 for easier access, again following the above proceedure but also using your other hand to steady the card more securely as you fit the card in the trapdoor.

Yes, for me I like to insert the card with the A1200 open, I remove the 5 screws, take the lid off, remove the keyboard and remove the trapdoor.

The I place the A1200 (the normal way up) on my Anti-Static Mat. I lift the A1200 and feed in the expansion through the trapdoor from underneath. I then put the A1200 back down on the Mat and push the card carefully onto the connector. Once lined up I find one finger on the right angled edge and one finger on the flat edge furthest from the connector gives you a good position for fiitting the card without too much force.

I test its working before refiitting the keyboard, lid and (if required) the Trapdoor. I tend not to over tighten the screws since my A1200 gets opened quite often

This method works for me, yes its a little more work but I'd rather that then damaging an expensive card.

Steve.

I use a wooden spatula to provide even force on the larger cards if I cant get my fingers in there.

Be careful though!

Sounds like a great Idea for a video
fancy doing one steve ???

the amount of scratches, finger aches and general swearing I`v done fitting those expansions is too much for a small froggie to take at times

mostly we have the case open and move the keyboard out of the way
always helps when you can see what u are doing

Then when you got it in place you got put the cover back on

Well at least its not as bad as fitting an RTG card (that has a video slot scan doubler attached) to an A4000D

Can't for the life of me fit the cards through the slot. There's just not enough room to wiggle, and indeed, gratuitous swearing abounds.

I pull the entire thing apart and lift the motherboard out - bit of a pain but once it's done and stable hopefully you won't have to do it again!

Considering the audience, I can't believe you all answered this question without any inuendo.. :-)

I had some issues fitting the RAM card in my 1200... Managed to get the card inserted and flush, and it wouldn't work.

After some playing, I found that it worked when I slid the card back from flush ever so slightly.

Now it's working great...

I can imaging an accelerater card would require (at least for me) to remove the case to safely get the card attached..
