Hi all,

i hope my description isn't too vague.

the sort of thing i am after is a wireless card that will fit in a mini pci slot and comes with an antena that fits internally (like a laptop set up)

am i making sense?

cheers, Justin

Hi Justin - by mini PCI do you mean like a card slot or the connection in a laptop? I have a couple of WiFi cards that came out of a couple of Tosh Satellites you're welcome to if of use?

Cheers

John

If I understand correctly, you have a mini PCI slot available on the motherboard, such as one an SSD might slot into, and want a wifi card the likes of which are usually found in laptops to go into it?

Is it mini-PCI or mini-PCI-E ? What motherboard? a "PC Card" is a completely different connection altogether, as that is actually a separate term.

Show us a picture would you?

Thought it might be :) I have a low profile PCI wifi card but the Antenna is external (on the back plate). Not sure if you could mod it to route the antenna internally...

Not sure if this is what you're after, but passive PCI Express to Mini PCI-E adapters exist. They enable you to use a WiFi card intended for laptops in a desktop case. Fit any old Mini PCI-E card and two or three antennas internally and you're set.

ok so i am getting there, i will need a laptop pci to PCI-e adaptor and a laptop wireless card with an ariel i can then put where i like in a case:thumbsup:

Um - a PCI to MINI PCI or a PCIe to Mini PCIe adapter, depending on if you want to use a Mini PCI or Mini PCIe network adapter.

It MAY be possible, however, to take the antenna sockets OFF a normal PCI network card, and reconnect them with a small fly-lead, so you can have the antenna inside - what this'll do with the signal I don't know...

Ah so its a PCI-e 1x to cardbus adapter you were after,

PCI-E 1x is what ye be needing from the looks of things...

It's worth noting that these are not mini PCI or mini PCI-E, which exist in laptops and mount parallel to the motherboard, like laptop RAM.

i went with the PCI adaptor in the end, need to find some 300mb laptop wireless cards now that still have the antenna attached:roll:

I'll check what I have in my stash and get back to you tomorrow morning.

Does it have to be a 300mpbs card?

Hi Justin - are these any good to you mate? You can just have them if they are.

Cheers

I don't mate as that was hard wired on to the Tosh MB then out to "clip" on to these. I binned the Tosh's a while ago and just kept HD's and RAM etc.

I'll send them off to you anyway. PM your addy please.

Cheers

John
