Hi,
I'm new to this site, just joined yesterday. I'm a former Amiga user, starting off with an Amiga 500 all those years ago, so long ago now I can't remember what year that was. I converted it to a desktop system with an Eyetech full tower case with an 030 CPU, 15gb HDD, which I used for so long:D I was devastated when Amiga went belly up. I couldn't understand how a company that seemed to do everything right could suddenly change almost overnight and get absolutely everything wrong. I'll never forgive them for ruining a way of life:(

It was brilliant while it lasted, I had emulators that could run Windows almost as fast as on a PC, and Mac OS faster than on a Mac:roll:

I just thought I might have a look to see if there was any hope of a new Amiga taking off again in the not too distant future, I still live in hope:unsure:

Welcome to AmiBay! You should check out some of the projects in the Photo Booth. It's amazing what we can do today with our Amiga computers that were made so long ago. :) Be careful though, pretty soon you'll be picking up a system and be mired in retro fun!

Crikey! An A500 tower; that's something quite special, right there! Do you have any photos? ;-)

Welcome to Amibay!

Hi,
Thanks for the welcome.
Sorry, but I got that wrong:oops: I've jumbled two things together. It's an A1200 that's in an Eyetech full tower case. Since I've had chemotherapy and a stem cell transplant in the last twelve months, my memory and thinking can get all jumbled up, as it seems to have done here, (I think they must have removed my brain cells rather than stem cells):D I haven't got a picture of it, sorry.

I'm looking to give my Amiga stuff away, the wife has been dogging me for ages, she's on about taking it to the tip now,:( but I'm sure some Amiga fans will welcome some of the stuff I've got. I think she's quietly worried about what she's going to do with it all if I 'pop my clogs', as the specialist said I'm in remission but still dying. So how do I go about advertising it on Amibay? The thing is there are 2 very large boxes plus my old Commodore monitor (a 1084 I think), plus the upgraded A1200 inside the Eyetech full tower case, so it would need to be collected, I'm not up to taking individual parcels to the Post Office for posting. I also read that everything advertised has to have its price displayed:unsure:

Any help on this would be greatly appreciated. Crikey, this is nearly long enough to be my life story:eek:

1st off, i am sorry to read your news, but remission is good right?

go to the sales section and choose what you want to sell (amiga hardware/software etc)
create a new thread, put a title, list what you have for sale, if there is a lot list one item per thread, you must state and price (the price you want for the item - no bids) then wait for the interested parties to roll in (y)

Yes, you're right remission is good. I'm OK, anyone who doesn't know me wouldn't think I was ill, because I definitely don't look ill. I've even told the wife to have "I told you I was ill" put on my gravestone when I go:LOL: which hopefully will be a good few years yet (touch wood)
The thing is I don't want any money for the stuff I just want someone who would give whatever they need a good home and sell off what they don't want, if that's what they want to do. I just haven't the time or the energy. The thing is they would have to come and collect it and it all has to go in one lot, and they would need a van or an estate to fit it in. Each of the boxes needs two people to pick them up.

We have a recycle area but your need to be in the AmiBayer group to access it. I've asked the mega mods to add you to the group. Once they do, you'll be able to post it in the recycle area. :D

Welcome to AmiBay, ray formerly known as A1200 EagleTower User.

Wish you all the best for your life, ray :)

What about charging a fee for your stuff and give it to a Charity (like one for your mentioned illness) to donate for their work?

Welcome to amibay!
Just an observation: people would be willing to pay for what you have there, and an amount that might surprise you...

Are there things that you'd rather swap it for? For example, do you like any drinks in particular, or does your wife have hobbies or similar that she'd like bits for?

Or you could exchange it for these tokens that allow people to buy what they want... "Money", I think it's called.

Hello Ray & welcome to Amibay :)

I'm sorry to read about your illness my friend, I wish you the best & hope there are many sunny & wonderful times ahead with your family.

I have granted you Amibayer status to allow you access to the recycle bin, however my friend from what you have described, those items are indeed worth something either for exchange or some funds to treat the family with.

Please take the advice of my good colleagues & think about 'selling' the goods rather than just giving them away.

If you need to discuss or indeed need help setting up your sales threads don't hesitate to talk to me via PM & I'll help you in any way I can.

My Very Best Wishes
TC :)

Sorry to hear about your illness.

But surf around the site and you'll quickly learn that the stuff you've got on your hands there is too good for the tip or the recycle bin. TCs offer is good, and you should take him up on it.

Hi,
Thanks. That should be a great help. When I saw you had to be passed by the mods I thought it might take forever, and I don't know whether the wife would wait that long.

Glad I could be of assistance. :) As others have said, please let us help you sell your gear. You and your family should benefit from the wonderful items you have.

Take care,

Heather

What I don't understand is how a 'woman' can force you to get rid of your Amiga gear?

There is no such thing as wear you down, if my partner tried anything remotely following these lines we both know exactly what would happen.

My Lounge is currently completely filled with a portion of my collection as I am working on sorting it ALL out...

My partner hasn't as much as said 'honey? are we getting our lounge back any time soon?' and it's been 2 weeks already...

I pity a man who is governed by the wrong head or worse does it for this ideal of peace?

In all honesty the machine is superior, repeat after me... you'll have TRUE peace with the machine, always (y)

The funny thing is I love the fact that men are hounded around the world in just this way... I recently won an auction 3 weeks back and arrived to pick up all the boxes of goodies, the wife comes out and say Finally it is all going, the poor chap who'd been the president of an Amiga club waved good by and wasn't even sure what was in one particular tower... I didn't know either... Got it home and it's an A500 towered with a XLV030 inside...

AWESOME... really...

So even though I endorse strength of will from you guys I secretly favour the ladies

and OOops, Welcome to Amibay! really!

Last time I checked, most of the most-stable relationships were based on mutual respect and give-and-take. Most of the married guys round here have wives who support their hobby, but without letting it take over. In all honesty, I think your comments are a little offside.

@ Slayer

We have quite a few female members on here and your post is tap-dancing right on the border of flaming / trolling, which is a major no-no and a membership-shortening move, if ever there was one.

We also have a female moderator on here, so it would also be a wise move to tread carefully.....:ninja:

I suggest that you grab a cup of coffee and familiarise yourself with our rules, as this is a maybe a more moderated site than you are used to and we like it that way. :readit:

ah, I see

well I believe in strict moderation too that is sadly lacking throughout the so called Amiga Boards as a whole but only in regards to protecting Amiga OS its HW and the spirit that was Amiga back in the day...

As for worrying about whos toes you step on that is simply a manner of opinion... I maybe blunt but what I say is not untrue...

I will refrain from commenting on these kinds of topics in future
