Hey chaps, i bought cheaply an iPod touch with problems which i decided to fix.
Subject: 1st Generation iPod Touch 32GB
Problem: When i received it plugging it into the computer did nothing. Plugging it into a wall outlet would switch it on, Apple logo comes up and then tells me to Restore it in iTunes.
Ok, so what i did was put it in my old JBL Radial dock which charges using the Firewire lines and then via USB connect the JBL to my Mac.
That way the iPod was recognized and I managed to restore it. Works perfectly, touch screen, music, internet/wifi and all. But while in use plugged in can sometimes just decide to restart itself.
BUT... As soon as i unplug it it switches off. When plugged in and working the battery reading is VERY erratic... Sometimes says fully charged but can be at any percentage from 0% to 91%. Sometimes says its charging and can be at any percentage. Tried a battery App from Cydia which says the battery is 0 Cycles and has a capacity of 900mAH.
Anyway, I am guessing it could be the battery. Batteries are cheap on ebay so i guess its worth trying to replace.
So, I followed a guide which says to remove the back cover and dislodge the battery and de-solder it from the board and re-solder a new one.
Now, I managed to remove the cover with no damages what so ever. Managed to dislodge the battery.
But I am not confident with a soldering iron.
Could I cut corners and just cut the wires from the side of the old battery and just connect them to the wires of the new battery and then tape them for insulation ?
Or should I find someone willing to do the soldering job ?
Sorry for the LOOOONG story but i like to be descriptive.
