I wanted to have an A1200D in my living room but wife told me, well if you want an old computer in MY living room it better work and look good :help:. I started gathering parts for the past months and now it's finally complete.

This has been my project and I have spent many resources, time and love with it.

This one woudn't be possible without AmiBay and its members, so I gotta thank everyone for that.

So anyway, this is what I've done...

SD/MicroSD adapter I got it from amigamaniac, works very well and it doesn't take much room.

I had to bend the shield a little bit but it rests very well on top of the pcmcia slot with isolation tape.

These heatsinks I also got from amigamaniac. They wil help the DCE flickermagic to live a little longer, I hope.

I had to use those to secure the FastATA in place, and I had to apply a lot of force. I don't know for what reason. I have a 2B board that doesn't need anything to be well secured in place. I believe the ROM sockets are slightly different from that board revision.

You can see the ACA-1231 in there, i'm very happy with it.

The ACA-1231 has a small design and allows you to attach a fan to the trapdoor.

I was lucky to find a good looking dust cover that will also avoid the miggy from getting yellowed over time.

Okay enough photos. Wife says it's OK.

The only thing missing now is the TFT monitor i've purchased that is reported to work well with the DCE Flicker Magic. Should be here within a couple days but we will see about that.

Thanks for looking. Have fun.

all in all a well speKed A1200D

Very tidy and nice-specced A1200, if a little unusual on the optical drive!
May you enjoy it for many years to come.

Gotta love stickers!

Beside the fact you've been brainwashed with sticker infested windows laptops for a couple of decades apparently, nice looking box. really like the heatsinks. anything that helps the miggy and its parts keep going :)

The heatsinks are very cool looking, love that color.. Gives it a very serious look and feel. Let's call it "amigapower"

Thanks guys! :)

I had trouble finding the best solution to incorporate an optical drive. I didn't want to see an IDE ribbon coming out from the side and the SCSI solution isn't available with the ACA card. This was the best I could do given the circumstances but I had to find a long enough cable and modify the trapdoor.

I could have cut the case and put the drive inside on top of something... The DCE that gets pretty hot? nope.. The FastATA? no way... with the drive inside it would be so stuffed the components wouldn't even have room to breath.

One of the things I found out with this is that when you think of an A1200 you believe there's enough room for whatever you want but when you get down to it you find out stuff doesn't fit and some things can't co-exist. Sometimes it's pretty much trial and error.

There's really not much room inside an A1200 when you put the keyboard in place.

:wooha: Is there an A1200 motherboard in there? I can't see for ALL OF THE OTHER THINGS on top! Could you possibly cram anything more into there? I don't even know what half that stuff is!

Looking like an awesome project, thanks for sharing. I really must get round to sorting out my A1200s at some point. I've got three on the go at the moment...

From what I can see Andy there are:
- FastATA with
--- IDE2SD adapter as Master on Primary Channel
--- DVD-RW as Slave on Primary Channel
- ScanMagic SD/FF
- New MASPlayer
- DB9 to PS/2+USB for Mouse adapter

Judging from the mini PCB near keyboard connector and also on U8 chip, I can assume that a keyboard adapter like an EZkey resides also :)

Nice job there mate. Neat way of mounting all these. With all that staff crammed in, the optical drive was mounted really coolish underneath :)

Really nice clean mods, congrats on an awesome project.

Really like the CD drive under the A1200, cleaver idea!

Nice system mate  It looks good. You might have some room left for the cdrom inside, but if it works ok now, I would not bother.

@mfilos

You got it right on most things but the PCB on top of U7 and U8 is actually The Real Floppy Fix by Thomas Hirsch.

@moijk

I can't say I disagree with you about the stickers not feeling right on a classic amiga desktop case. I've removed 2 of them. I'm only keeping the boing ball sticker from AmigaKit that blends in well with a standard white case.

Tomorrow I'm going to test the TFT screen with the DCE Flickermagic. Monitor specs says Horizontal scan range 28kHz - 61kHz so it should work.

Fingers crossed! :)

I can see the pictures now - weird...

Nice mod - hope you enjoy your miggy in the living room!

Thanks! :)

Here's a couple more photos. Picture quality is not bad at all with the Flickermagic and Sony SDM.

Next step is to get it online! :ninja:

I've decided to add a Subway USB and cut some holes to the case :ninja: I've also cut one for the SD adapter so I can swap SD cards so backups and different installs can be acessed with the case closed.

Unfortunately it seems my FastATA is busted so I will have to buy another one. I'll probably open a wanted thread soon.

Nice update, looks really tidy - awesome work

Beautiful workbench and icons, mate. What resolution do you use and how much colours ? It's not too slow with just an ACA1230 ??
