Hello, I am putting my 840AV up for sale. SkyDivinGirl has first interest if she wants due to extenuating circumstance on the previous sell of my LCIII.

The machine is a bare bones 840AV. When it came to me it had no hard drive, no CD-ROM drive, no mouse, and only the built in memory. I have done a little work on it, but not terrible much. The top door cover, where the CD-ROM drive should go was damaged and then repaired before I received the machine. The case front is yellowed, but difficult to see in the picture. I found an ADB mouse. The mouse is definitely not the original mouse, but the keyboard may be original. The hard drive in it is a 200MB SCSI drive. The OS is 7.5.1 or .3 I cannot remember. The machine still needs a CD-ROM drive tray, CD-ROM bezel, and a SCSI CD-ROM. The machine does indeed work, and works very well. I have added 64MB of RAM. Sadly the last set of 32MB SIMMs I had don't work in this system. Please see the pictures below.

If SdG states she is no longer interested then the machine can go to anyone else whom is interested. The price is 100USD plus shipping. I am willing to ship internationally, but please note; packed this machine, with keyboard and mouse weighs 35 pounds so shipping will be exorbitant. Thank you for looking and have a nice day.

Thanks everyone. :) I have a nice Sony SCSI CD-ROM that will work beautifully in this system. I love that one of Nathan's pictures shows the system running Willy Beamish! I've still never finished that game. Perhaps it's a good time to try it again.

Since it appears we have some Classic Mac experts, will someone tell me if this VGA adapter will work with this system? Are there any pitfalls I should be aware of when using an adapter like this?

Thank!

@ SdG

I have a nice HP SCSI CD-RW that might work nicely in that system as well.

Any interest...??

I appreciate the offer Merlin, but the SCSI drive I have is just collecting dust at the moment and will be perfect for this system. In addition, shipping a CD drive overseas will be a bit costly. :D

Thanks!

Payment has been received. I shall ship her to you today. May you have as much fun with this beauty of a machine. By the way I got my Performa 637CD and it's working great. There were several old sierra games that I couldn't get to run on the 840 that run great on 637 and I never really needed the AV stuff anyway. That's what toaster and flyer cards are for. :D

I saw an adapter that would supposedly fit the drive bay to put in a SCSI II drive. If you want I will dig up the link that way if you want to put a larger hard drive in it, you don't have to try and scrounge one of the larger 50 pin drives.

The 840AV supports SVGA monitors and I used a similiar adapter with my 840av. Although svga might limit you to 800x600, you can spoof other monitor types to get the resolutions you want. I'll have a look around too for some vram for it.
I think I have an apple demo software that showed off the AV+dsp features.
Must raid my old scsi drive store. lol

Thanks TheoryBoy! Any help would be greatly appreciated. I guess I'll go ahead and order that adapter then. :)

The maximum resolution the monitor can do with 1MB of video ram is 1024x768 at 8 bit. To do higher, you need to increase the video ram by 256KB VRAM SIMMs, which were problematic for me to find around here. Maxed out at 2MB of VRAM and the machine can do a maximum of 1152x870 in 16 bit mode.

I wish I knew of amibay some years ago (if it existed). We offloaded a load of older apple machines to the dumpster at work. ;)

Received today. I have to wait to get a VGA adapter before I can try it, but I know Nathan will work with me if there are any problems.

Leaving feedback and closing thread.
