Hi guys.

I picked up a fairly dinged up A4000 desktop a while ago with some battery leakage.

I got the battery out and noticed there was a track missing...the computer works fine. Did the whole lemon juice, toothbrush and running water-routine....still fine.

Why does it still work, and what is the purpose of this former connection?

Also I am wondering about getting the a4000d up to 16MB RAM. I have a lot of SIMMs and DIMMs stashed away with unkown voltage and latency, ranging from 265kb to 8MB

Can the a4000d handle different voltages, different latency per bank, parity and non parity, half bank mode, two 8MB sticks or even one or two 32MB sticks that is used as 16MB ?

Thanks for reading

An educated guess but I'd say that if the A4000 operates ok with the missing track, then the track is probably the one going from battery to either RTC or ground.

As for the RAM, I've seen threads about using two 8 MB SIMMs in an A4000 but not sure, if it was here or at EAB.

You can use EDO or FPM, but not both mixed together. You can also use 2x 8MB RAM, one in bank #1, one in bank #3. Parity will get ignored anyway. If you mix different latencies, it will sync to the slowest one in the pack.

Last time i've repaired an 4000D that chip controls both mouse and joystick port, have you tested both mouse buttons and joystick movements?

Thanks for the response guys:thumbsup:

I got her up to 16MB by mixing and matching for a while and ending up with similar specced sticks.

Keyboard, mouse and joystick is fully working.

My IDE HDD on the other hand seems to not be doing so good....

I'm not gonna me able to test RTC before after I have had the chance to place an order @ amigakit....can't decide on what to get....so might be a while.

That missing/damaged track is part of the RTC circuitry. In this state, the RTC is not recognized by the system. Even after mounting a new battery.
