Selling my cherished PowerMac G5 2.7GHz system.

You will not find a better system to run MorphOS on. If you haven't run MorphOS ever or in a while, it is a real treat. Modern email and browser alone are worth it. The way smb2 is supported is brilliant, it's just so good all around now. Can run uae simply with the Chrysalis pack. They just released 3.18 a week or 2 ago and are already working away on 3.19. Great group of developers and responsive to the community.

I used this particular system for my day to day work and it is plenty fast enough. Mostly used MorphOS native programs and some Amiga 68k productivity software with the JIT system in the OS and not UAE (never used UAE actually on it). I did replace the battery about a year ago and you can see in the pictures I have the extra connectors for power on the 1950.

I didn't do much gaming, only work related and watching 1080p movies on it. I should clarify, that the 1080P I'm talking about isn't tiny 4-6gig 264 media. This monster plays 12-14GB 264 files and small 265 files directly from my NAS. 2.7Ghz grunt can get it done at the end of the day! Since decoding media is cpu only you can use the other AGP video card for similar results. I also tested Quake III and it was faster than my 8 year old pc.

The video card is the fastest you can get for this Mac and MorphOS and fully support dual monitors that I used daily. MorphOS handles dual monitors extremely well (even improved in 3.18 - and I know they are going to do more with it.). All you have to do is click on a window gadget and it puts it on the other monitor with a single click. Also note this is a PC BIos card and will not (as far as I know) work with MacOS (might be wrong, but I heard that was the case). I will also add a spare Radeon with the PPC bios that will run Both MacOS and MorphOS (with dual monitor support). This will make getting MorphOS setup much easier, but for MorphOS use I would definitely use the 1950 pro.

Please note I converted the system to air cooled because the liquid cooling on these can fail and kill the cpu's. It runs about 5 degrees cooler with the air cooled conversion. I have the liquid cooler still that I did not rebuild if you want it shipped with the box. I even replaced one of the fans with a Nactua to quiet it down a bit. Note this is NOT a silent system. Those already familiar with Powermacs know the fans can spin up when it gets toasty. I was going to look at replacing all the fans with all Nactuas but never did.

I never ran MacOS or Linux or other OS's so I really don't have much to say in that. I put this system together for the best MorphOS experience and that is all I ever ran on it...

Ok enough preamble on to the hardware:

Aircooled Power Mac G5 2.7 GHz
2 GB Ram
AGP 1950X Pro (Fastest video card that runs MorphOS on this box)
SB Audigy PCI card (MorphOS will also use the motherboard audio - I just liked the sound of the Audigy since I watched a ton of movies on it).
Spare PPC Bios Radeon AGP card
The SSD is NOT included, but I will email you the key file for the system. The key files for MorphOS are lock to the individual hardware so it will only work on this box.

As stated in the header, this system comes with a MorphOS license so it is ready to install and go!

This system is HEAVY, likely around 50lbs so shipping will NOT be cheap. Pick up is also an option if you want.

In all my travels with Amiga and AmigaNG/Like systems, this system is king of the hill by a significant margin. You can watch youtube videos in wayfarer with no problems, from what I have read gaming speeds on this rig is without compare. So if you want the absolute fastest, here you go...

The price is $1,200 USD not including shipping. Happy to ship world wide, but I fear the price to do so would be prohibitive.

Ok, I uploaded the block of aluminum pictures. Enjoy.

And yes, this message was created in wayfarer :).

Here is SMB2 shown by Jaca one of the coders of the OS (It is super cool to just click on networks and it see and lists all the networks - takes seconds to connect):

Yeah $1200 sight unseen with 0 pictures is a tall ask.

You MorphOS guys think you are above the law.:p

Hello Matt

Hey friend!

Yes, I gotta say these mods on Amibay are good people and very patient with me. I hardly ever do anything timely :) but at least I'm honest and try to do the right thing. I don't know why I loath taking picture so much and my kids were schooling it, now that they are free I can hit them up for it.

btw, I can tell you really know your stuff with this rig. Lots of people don't realize the liquid cooling on these is fraught with peril and will leak and cause damage. But you've switched to air cooling so all is well. Great system and good luck with the sale! :check:

Thanks Comraider.

I really will miss this system as it is the fastest MorphOS box I have and I went out of my way to get it just right. At first I wasn't much of a fan of Apple PPC, but over the years they started to grow on me. Shame so many cpu's have died because people never checked it. You still can use liquid cooling but you just have to check it a few times a year and let me tell you it is a major project taking the cpu's out of these, lol.

Quick trivia... The PCIx systems all have these liquid coolers that are prone to fail. The PCIe systems (technically only the 2.5GHz) has a liquid cooler that doesn't leak but they are prone to motherboard/heat issues.

At the end of the day, even though it used to pain me to say, Apple PPC stuff is really the best (the highest clock and spec systems) for Amiga NG systems for just raw performance. The Altivec and memory access and grunt of the cpu really deliver performance. MacOS was only the real albatross, it could barely browse the internet and play movies. MorphOS allows you to realize the hardware.

Sorry for the long delay, I haven't been on this super bay like I should.
This system was sold off of Amibay...

Sorry Vasilii for not checking in, forgot about it so much time passed :).
