My little retro corner

After moving to our new house I've finally come to the point of unpacking my retro-stuff boxes and more or less properly setting up things so I can actually look at it .

Right now I've got a cupboard full of boxed Amiga games, some Colecovision thingies and a few other bits 'n bobs on display, plus some variations of the best joystick ever made: the Quickshot Python!

My desk is home to two Amigas, which I still have to set up and install properly. The A500 will be used as a games machine (and will be expanded with an ACA520 when they become available), while the A3000 will be mostly used for productivity stuff (translation: screwing around with all those nifty little tools and gadgets which you can find on the Aminet ).

When they're both ready to use, they will be accompanied by my Win7 box which is currently set up in my girlfriend's office room. Until then it's looking a bit like a mess...

And on the other side I've made a little corner for my other great hobby: the guitar (note the fake Persian carpet, a common thing used by my favourite guitar players. I hope it inspires me )

The only thing still missing is a sitting corner with a television to actually play my Colecovision on. I'm thinking about getting a few more consoles once I've done that, most likely the 8 and 16 bit Nintendo and Sega ones.

It's not much compared to some hardcore collections a few of you guys have got out there, but I'm more of a user than a collector, and I REALLY like to have everything tidy, rather than a big mess all over the place.

On top of the cupboard is a special edition of the old pc game ST: a Final Unity (from somewhere around 1995 or so). Came in a special hard plastic case, with an LCD badge pin, picturing the 1701D flying by.
If you mean the book that you can see right of the Bender model - that's a guidebook to the same game.

Last saturday it was the annual "from Pong to Playstation" retro-gaming meeting from the Dutch Commodore Users Group, which was a very good excuse for me to bring along and unbox my Colecovision collection and play some of those good old games for a few hours. I even did manage to get a decent score on Mouse Trap

The only thing missing now is the Atari 2600 expansion kit, plus a few more games to add to the collection...

To be precise: it's a Squier Bullet, not a Strat. You can see the neck hanging in the middle of the guitar stand.

It's a bit of a DIY project: I removed the tremolo bridge (which was impossible to keep in tune) and filled the holes, so I can fit a fixed bridge. I've already refretted the neck, since the frets looked like someone hit them with a hammer

The body was covered with a very thick and ugly layer of red polyurethane paint, so I completely sanded it down and currently it's covered in 2 layers of nitro blue. It needs quite a bit more sanding and filling (the wood is very soft), and after that it gets a few more coats of blue and transparent nitro lacquer.
Finally, I'm going to fit a new pickguard and new pickups, but I'm not sure what kind yet.


edit: the piece of wood where the neck is supposed to be is made from a failed DIY neck from one of the Telecasters that I'm building. It's just there so I can hold the body while spraypainting it...

May i suggest the Alnico V5 pickups, they have some good critics, and tend to be affordable. As about a pickguard, the original ones were rather thin and disapointing, usually being 1-ply. You have two options: either trace a 3-ply designed for the Bullet, or purchase a Strat one and do some slight modding (drilling/filling etc.)

What brand are those pickups (got a link)? I've been pondering Leosounds pickups lately, they're not too expensive either and I've also heard good critics about those. However, I'm still not sure what type of pickups I'm going to fit anyway, I might as well buy three P90s

As for the pickguard, the original one is a 3-ply and it's still in good shape, but it's a bit yellowed (which looks ugly with the blue as you can see) and I need to hack it up anyway for the new bridge to fit. I'm thinking about just buying a sheet of pearloid and cutting a new pickguard myself.
